Check out this weird gun...

Tue Oct 28, 3:58 PM ET

In this handout picture made available Tuesday Oct. 28, 2003 by the Israel-based Cornershot Co. in Tel Aviv, Israel, a rifle is seen composed of two parts; the front, that can swivel from side to side, containing a pistol with a color camera mounted on top, and the back section which consists of the stock, trigger and a monitor. According to a report by the Israeli daily 'Maariv' newspaper, the pistol, produced by the Florida-based Cornershot Holdings, is being tested by the Israeli military and has already been bought by a number of special forces around the world. The unique weapon allows a soldier to remain behind cover, with only the barrel of the rifle exposed in the direction of the hostile fire. (AP Photo/HO, Cornershot)

2. Very weird. I'd think it would be hard to shoot too.
The recoil wouldn't be against your shoulder, but in the above shot, your left arm would take it. You'd better make the first shot count cause god only knows where the gun will end up after that shot.

10. Nah, it looks like a Glock on the end of the gun.
so felt recoil shouldn't be bad.

23. Isn't that a cheap brazilian .32 semi-auto in the end of that thing?

All that technology to point and fire a "Saturday Night Special"....Damn little recoil, and even less accuracy.

Perfect for killing Palestinians in a crowd around the corner. The IOF (Israeli OFFENSE Force) will eat 'em up like popcorn....

12. not really...
which is better...a gun allowing you to shoot around corners, or the current way that situation is dealt with....namely throwing a grenade around the corner?

this has less chance of causing civilian casualties...

7. A More Elegant Solution Than The Germans Had In WWII
They actually made a machine gun with a curved barrel and no way to see the sights or the target.

Needless to say, it wasn't very successful.

9. actually...

the WWII german version used a periscope arrangement, so you could, indeed, see what you were shooting at. The problem was that it altered the trajectory of a fired round, meaning that it wore out quickly and deformed the projectile in the process. It looks like this one has a handgun tacked onto a rifle stock, so the trajectory is straight.

14. The Pic I Saw Didn't Include The Sighting Arrangement
None the less, the curved barrel wore out after a few thousand rounds and the pressure of the expanding gasses in the barrel did deform the projectile and made the rifling in the barrel useless.

It looks like a short-barrel rifle on a hinge with a CCD camera sighting system and possibly solid-state laser-dot sighting system. Elegant, but useful as long as logistics can supply the batteries...and we all know how Dimbo supports the troops.

11. This idea dates back to WWI....
where the British adapted the Lee Enfield Model 1 Mark 3 with a periscope arrangement so that soldiers could shoot over the lip of a trench without exposing their head.

16. I just love inventions that . . .
improve man's ability to kill his fellow man, don't you? . . . whoever said "what the world needs now is love, sweet love" was obviously mistaken . . . what the world needs now is guns that can shoot around corners and lasers that can kill from outer space . . . just seems so self-evident to me . . . glad our scientists and engineers are staying ahead of the curve on this one . . .

(sarcasm off . . . )
