23. I love when Mac people say that
Because if everyone ends up switching to Macs, they'll end up having the same problems many PC users have.

My recommendations:

Use multiple spyware programs. I use Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destry and the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program. I never have any spyware, but it's all precautionary.

Use Firefox. It's already been recommended and linked above, but I can't stress what kind of an improvement

Browse wisely. Lots of to,es things like screensavers, various little programs that seem like they'll be helpful to you can contain spyware. Try to educate yourself to identify what can pose a potential risk.

24. A Simple Guide To Macintosh Security
http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=335882&rl=1

No OS is 100% fool-proof secure, but the security by obscurity thing is a bit of a myth. With the Mac's (unwarranted) reputation as being an elitist platform used by richer folk, it sure would seem to be a tempting target to a malicious hacker wanting to make a reputation.

9. Go to TomCoyote
Google it and join the forum.
There are free geeks there who will ask to you run a scan, post a screenshot of whatever message you get, and they'll tell you exactly what you need to run to remove the worm.

It might take a few tries, but hang with 'em.

14. spybot doesn't do it all
Install adaware also.
First boot into safe mode.
reboot and press f8 choose safe mode w/network support.
Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run the online virus scan.
If nothing is found go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
and install adaware. Get the updates when it starts and run it. Get rid of anything it finds.
Then run spybot. AFTER getting the updates. Also make sure you run the immunization in spybot.
Reboot and you should be OK.
Do you have a firewall? If not install one. Also get and install antivirus if you don't have it.
Bitdefender is free. http://www.bitdefender.com/index.php

17. Anti-spyware - need more than one
Besides Spybot get Adaware. Get spyware guard also. Microsoft has an anti-spyware for free at this time. It is actually pretty good.

Spyware Sweeper is a pretty good pay for program and I think you can have a free trial of it.

You may have to edit some nasty stuff out of your registry.

Here is a help page: http://www.pchell.com/support/spyware.shtml

Just kidding...;)

A friend of mine was once googling for cosmetic surgery on his chest. Suddenly he began getting all sorts of porno pop ups. You can get them for the oddest reasons.
