I think it's what they call a gaited breed? ... Dunno, though. It's been a long time since my horse days.

I haven't ridden in many a year, either, and only rode a few times on friends' and relatives' horses, but I really loved it every time, and really, really miss it.

The Andalusians are the horses trained for and used in the bull rings. They were also favoured as war horses earlier on, thus one of the most famous Spanish Horse schools is in Vienna.

They can make decent dressage horses, except they are reasonably small, at least compared to Warm Bloods (which are 'the' dressage horse)

The Spanish use them for cattle work. I know some people who use them for cattle but find other breeds better for it, but we aren't in Spain so there are probably reasons for that.

On the whole they are quite quiet and easy to ride.

I'm glad to hear they can be ridden, and even were used as war horses! Though I am saddened to hear that they are smaller.

When I can finally own horses, what I'd really love is one of them huge-ass warhorses like I've seen in paintings (which doesn't mean they exist, sadly....), like Franzetta paintings.

And these Andalusians are very much, at least in looks, what I envisioned my idea horse to look like!

25. Lippizzaner

They are closely related. The Lippizzaner is from from Western Spain/Portugal, wheres the Andalusian is from Southern Spain (not that there is that much difference geographically, it's not like that area of Europe is very big)

When I say they aren't big, they're plenty big enough for regular folk, they are usually between 15 and 16 hands, with some going a bit over 16 (1 hand = approx 4 inches) Warm Bloods, the ones all the dressagers like, tend over 17 hands, they are REALLY big.

After having them for some time, they are what I think horses look like too :-) If this were a 'horse board' there would be a religous war on right about now between the Andalusian supporters and the Arab supporters, but I don't go in for that, for me it's the individual that counts.

32. A lot of those huge ass war horses were bred out of it after

they weren't needed anymore. Shire horsed are a prime example. Once bred for battle, but when suits of armor became obselete, so did the hugh horses that carried that weight, and their aggression. Who needs a hugh plow horse that wants to kill you. That's why Shires are like big dogs now. Sweet, goofy, and friendly. Or so I've heard.

but my heart belongs to Arabians. Wish I had a camera to post my girls' pics, but my Mona Lisa looks almost like this one ( if she was shined up and had the fancy halter.) Men have fallen in love with her, she is so gorgeous. She's also a big brat but I love her dearly.

22. I miss horseback riding. :(

I haven't been able to do any riding since my neck crapped out on me...very depressing. I'm not a very good rider, but I enjoy every minute of it.

And yes, the horse is beautiful. Horses are just plain f-ing beautiful. That's all there is to it.

My sister has two mares, but they're both silver dappled. They look like they have snowflakes all over them.



Here's my horsie-she's a North American Spotted Draft Horse=big! She's lots cleaner now tho!! She just turned 3 and is in training.
