For those of you still interested in the story behind Will Pitt's thread:
Edited on Tue May-31-05 11:44 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
Some of you might be aware that Will Pitt will be in Los Angeles this weekend, giving a talk for the PDA. I am going to go. I've been talking to a third party about this event. We will call this person Deep Throat, or DT. (I WILL NOT identify this person; DON'T ASK.)

I have always been intimidated by Will; he's very smart, very verbal, very literate, and he hardly ever answers my posts. I feel as though I am out of his league, and I am. OK..This doesn't bother me, BTW.

DT knows how I feel about Will. DT suggested to me that when I meet Will at this talk, that I do "something." Hug, kiss, Wet Willie...something...But I felt uneasy about doing anything. DT told Will to give me a hard time. Will suggested to DT that he could torture me if that would make DT happy. His thread was the result.

So there you are; mystery solved...I hope this clears things up!

On edit: Wet Willie is NOT a person, but an act...you wet your forefinger and put it into another person's ear...I can't do it to Will!

25. OH, this should have been a poll-
1. Wet willie (which gets my vote)
2. Kiss on the cheek
3. Sweet hug
4. Light little pinch on the bottom
5. Surprising nickname
6. Nosegrab

26. and- not for nothing, the "nosegrab"
is an effective disarming maneuver. I have used it four times in my life with excellent results. The most memorable of which was about six years ago. There was a girl shouting at me at the top of her voice and actually getting in my face. I was quick about it; I grabbed the bridge of her nose lightly between my forefinger and middle finger. Just like that, she stopped shouting. Not a minute later, she began laughing & smacked my hand away lightly. Forgot to continue fussing.

Also: it must be executed with a straight face.

38. I'll be damned, I'm not the only one who uses the "nose grab!"
Have employed it on Mrs R. a few times (not that we argue much).

Though for California Peggy, I endorse her use of a Noogie or an Indian Rope Burn, just for shock value.

40. Ah, yes. Far more effective than any vulcan pinch.
Also very good for those, "aren't you just as cute as a button" instances, too. Served with a smile.

:P

What do you know, I'd forgot about the Noogie!

41. Especially in this case, where she thinks of the recipient as a bit of
a celebrity, the Noogie is just the thing to establish a friendly, equal relationship. When you grab that head, tuck it under your armpit, and scrub away with the old knucks, you make a friend for life, every time--especially if it's the first time you've met the person.

Don't you agree?

The Indian Rope Burn, however, might be misinterpreted as inappropriately intimate, so let's rule that one out.

44. You never heard of an Indian Rope Burn?
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 03:08 PM by Redstone
It's when you grab someone's wrist in both of your hands and rotate you hands back and forth in alternate directions (like wringing water from a cloth, but quickly).

It's not as affectionate than a Noogie, so that's why I recommend the Noogie instead.

Yes, a good afternoon today, thanks for asking.

Yours? Pleasant as well, Ihope.

Mystery solved? Hardly. We just got the first Deep Throat revealed after 30 some years, and now we have this new DU-DT. Great, just great. Another mystery, just when everything had been revealed. :tinfoilhat: Except there really are mysteries within mysteries.

16. Hmmm, hfojvt...
You've lost me...Riding a Schwinn? Wind beneath my wings? What? Mr. Will Pitt does hardly ever answer my posts, this is true. DT is a person who knows what is going on, and whose name I have sworn not to reveal. That is all...The person wants to be anonymous. It doesn't really matter who it is.

21. semi-old pop song
"she's like the wind" which includes the line "she's outta my league". I believe weird Al did a parody changing it to "she rides a schwinn". Wind beneath your wings, maybe because I just saw Bette Midler on a Seinfeld re-run. "Did you ever know that you're my hero, you're everything I wish I could be. I can fly higher than an eagle, for you are the wind beneath my wings."
Obviously, playing hard to get and not answering posts is the secret to his success, which I cannot master because I always have to get the last word, if only to explain my last lame attempt at a joke.
You say it does not really matter, but I can predict a future where the lounge is dominated by "is matcom DT?" "Is progmom DT?" It could be the new Yak, a mystery which will keep us awake at night, and haunt us for decades. We have to know these things. We are liberals, not Repukes who can wallow in their ignorance. This is trouble with a capital D and that stands for Deep Throat.

Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 02:16 AM by CaliforniaPeggy
I remember the song; it was always one of my favorites. And I don't think your jokes are lame! I'm just waay out of the loop and don't get things that other people get.

Will does not play hard to get; he's just a guy with a LOT going on. I suspect that he picks and chooses who he responds to, because making a response is time-consuming, and he doesn't have a lot of free time.

Someday I might ask our own DT if that person's identity can be revealed. Until then you'll just have to put up with the mystery. I am honoring DT's wishes in not revealing that person's identity. I would do the same for you, and for anyone asking me to do so.

I love how your last sentence works! It's terrific...

Trust me on this one. Granted he's a cute and articulate guy...but still just a guy. And the last person on earth who would ever consider himself to be "out" of anyone's "league". :)

Get a couple of beers in him and you'll find out what I'm talking about. (Ignore this advice if you don't like Led Zepellin sung in a bad high falsetto) ;)

Go and meet him and talk to him...you won't regret it. And definitely hug him...he gives good hugs.
