Oh my goodness
This guy on CSpan thinks that homosexuals are going to take over marriage if they are given their rights.

And they are talking about Bush banning abortion right now.

1. They'll just make it more interesting.

Please! What is so threatening about homosexuals? I just don't get it. I'm sure many gays would put their own flavor into the marriage ceremony, just as many straights who don't want the boring, traditional ceremony have been known to do. Gays aren't going to go away, or be 'cured', so why not let them have the same rights as straights do, because first and foremost, they are human beings.

On edit: regarding the abortion issue--my daughter (she's 16) is getting together with her friends to petition elected officials in order to ensure they don't have their right of reproductive choice taken away. I've told her long ago that I almost had an abortion, but at the last minute chose to have her. I also tell her how glad I was to be able to have a choice in the matter.

I'd kinda like to get a look at 'em before I jump into this whole thing. This was not on my agenda until 11/7 at 10am.

6. Well, speaking as someone
who's been married 23 years, I don't feel as if all marriage is societal bullshit. Certainly, if you feel that way, you shouldn't get married.

But those who want to marry the person they love should be allowed to.

As I tell my two sons, when they fall in love, their love's race, ethnicity, and gender are not the most important things. What truly matters is that they treat each other with mutual dignity and respect. Just keep it within the species, is all i ask.

7. My marriage is not threatened
How can my marriage be threatened by another couple wanting to commit to a lifetime of faithful commitment? Sounds like an endorsement of marriage, not a threat...
Goodness, people are frightfully stupid...

8. Yeah, and Married By America
and Who Wants to Marry Some Fucked-Up Millionaire don't cheapen the institution. Yeah, right.

Puh-leeze. We've made it about as tawdry and commercial as we possibly can with straight couples. Would someone tell me how Queer Eye for the Straight Marriage can possibly be any more fucked-up than two drunks who've never met before getting married by Elvis in Vegas?
