Congratulations to Plaid Adder on her new weekly column on DU

Plaid Adder launched her weekly column on Democratic Underground this morning.

Her column will run on DU's home page on Wednesdays.

Plaid Adder is one of Democratic Underground's literary treasures. Her featured articles on DU's home page have been a pleasure to read as have been many inghtful threads which she has started. Plaid Adder is also an accomplished poet. In February, she hosted the anti-war poetry slam in DU's Meeting Room in protest of Laura Bush's concellation of a White House poetry reading. The poetry is preserved on a page in the Newton's Baby website.

Plaid Adder also runs the Adder's Lair, her own website of poetry, fiction and essays.

A little anecdote that may cheer you, Plaid: Since the PACS (civil union/domestic partnership) law was passed in France in 1999, tens of thousands of unions have been formalized. AND the number of marriages has also increased--debunking the great "this will bring down the house of civilization" argument the right likes to throw our way.

Home of all that is icky, according to many of our fellow-Americans.

Canada doesn't seem to be on fire right now either, despite same-sex unions being performed in Toronto on a daily basis. But of course you can't sell the right wing using analogies to other countries, because America is THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, so why would we want to emulate lesser, suckier countries?

I'm glad you guys are excited. I've always wanted to be a pundit, but no newspaper's readers would ever put up with me.

My favorite part is the little "Plaid Adder" graphic, which I think is hilarious. My partner asked me whether it "looks like it's strangling capitalism and the patriarchy," which is a reference to the graphic on my homepage:
