In other words, change YOUR life as much as you can to come into line with the values that you hold to be true. Then, you will provide an example to others by the way that you live, hopefully spurring them toward similar endeavors.

Having been (and still being) involved in left-activism, I often take issue with the whole hierarchy of left-leaning movements. We like to pretend that we're not heirarchical, but we are. There are plenty of self-styled "leaders" who end up dedicating themselves to gathering a following and, in the end, betray many of the values that they might have held dear in the first place.

Many of my neighbors actually seem pretty "retro". They've made it, they have their nice house and retirement bundle, and they are pretty conservative. I remember last year, when I was trying to get a contractor for exterior work, my neighbors were all alarmed because I was considering hiring some afro-american guys to to the job...
