so i watched "Phantom of the Opera" last night...
daaaaaaaaahh dah dah dah dah daaaaaahhhh

just cause i'm feeling a little self destructive this week, i did a Renny Harlin/Joel Schumacher back to back film fest x(

well, i try to keep it brief...

Gerard Butler is pretty hot with his half-face... nice lips... can't sing for shit...

Emmy Rossum is beautiful...

my only complaint it that it's like 141 minutes too long...

and... oh, yeah... there are too many FUCKING SONGS... just when you are hoping (praying) for like 5 or 10 minutes of dialog, they launch into another one...

ok, that's all...

my apologies to any "Phantom" phans i may have offended :P

5. may I ask
Are you male? You know that Phantom is really all about sex. Most women above the age of puberty understand that. Men, well, not so much.

3. I saw the musical when it came to my city...
I loved it.

I saw the movie about a week ago. And YES, it was very, very loooooong. I kept looking at the clock waiting for it to end.

I guess it's better to watch it live than the movie.

Yeah, Butler looks better with the mask on.

4. Dude! You weren't listening carefully
it's the same freaking song with I think 3 themes tops throughout the whole damn story! I say story, because I haven't seen the film adaptation.

is a rip-off from Pink Floyd "Echoes"? Roger Waters hates him for that.

17. The rest was stolen from Pucinni
unfortunately he couldnt sue for it. Waters did sue, and won, I believe.

Weber hasn't done any original composing since Evita. Very sad. He was so promising in the 70's, but all his stuff afer that was just re-hashing of older composers.

13. I thought it was absolutely rank...
My Mom is a huge Gerard Butler fan, so I was treated to a showing. I literally burst out laughing when the disco drums erupted during the gondola ride. :)

I think it was a very poorly directed film. Schumaucher (or any other director) should have insisted that ALW hand over complete creative control -- the film suffered terrible because it was unable to transcend its theatrical roots. And yes, Gerard is hunky but can't sing worth a damn. The only performance standout was Minnie Driver - but only in a completely campy way.

Lots of pretty pictures to view, but one shouldn't be forced to watch an "operetta" with the sound off.

19. Patrick Wilson...
suffers from a serious case of screen blandness. I did like him in "Angels in America", bit not much of his work since. He does have a quality singing voice, though.

It is one of my very favorite musicals -- totally original, electric, and moving. Poor JCM -- what on earth do you do after "Hedwig"??? :)

22. good question...
like a musician who has an impeccable debut album that is impossible to top...

i think he's working on a new film... according to imdb...

stephen trask is an amazing composer... but at least he's honest about the sources he borrows from... a lot in tongue in cheek... the documentary on the dvd is killer :)

24. I did like the movie Moulin Rouge much more than I expected
I don't even like Grease because I went to the re-release a few years ago with all the hardcore fans that sang and danced along with the movie. It was like Rocky Horror Picture Show fans
