I knew it - "Minneapolis top city on fun list"

According to a company that makes board games, the City of Lakes is the most fun city in the whole country, way ahead of apparently more boring places like Las Vegas (25th in fun) and New York (41st in fun).

Minneapolis, according to Sperling's report, "has more theaters than Boston, more parks than Denver, more golfers per capita than any other city in America - and, with 10,000 lakes in the state, Minnesota has more coastline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined."

Dammit. This was supposed to be kept a secret. If people ever find out that it's actually tropical year 'round here, we'll be innundated.

Note to State PR Dept: make sure there are lots of pictures of blizzards and reports of -20 degree temps on the national news this winter. Use the Alaska footage, it's more desolate.

3. 10,000 lakes in the state?

Hell, we've got 11 lakes in the city. Most of them are surrounded by park land and are available for walkers, runners, skaters, and cyclists to go round and round.

And winters? Yeah, I remember those. We are just now getting the weather that is typical for an Oregon winter (drizzly and 40 degrees), but if my memory serves me correctly, it can get, like, 60 or 70 degrees colder, can't it? :scared:

Minneapolitans need more indoor entertainment.

6. Minneapolis doesn't really get all that much snow

in the winter, not compared to some other places. And they do a pretty decent job of clearing it off, unlike some cities I've lived in. The number of parks in the city is just amazing. When my oldest was tiny, I could walk just two or three blocks in any direction and find a small park with a few pieces of play equipment for him. There were about five, I'm not exaggerating, five, small parks just a couple of blocks away.

Great city. I'd move back there in a heartbeat.

8. Minneapolis a great town

Glad to see the city getting some notice! I live about an hour and a half away, but get to Minneapolis frequently and am always impressed by the lakes, the woodlands and wetlands that have been preserved, even in very urban, developed areas.
Get this: a few years ago, a mating pair of cougars was spotted on the security tape of a St. Louis Park (VERY developed, industrial-park-type suburb) parking lot, late at night. This is almost in the heart of the city...and it's rare to see the things out here in the boonies where I live! So Mpls must be doing something right to have maintained so much habitat for wildlife...
Many museums, art galleries, parks, etc.
And just a couple hours north is Duluth and the wonderful north shore of Lake Superior.
Minnesota is a GREAT state, and the winter months only make spring the sweeter :-)

Every time bad winter weather makes it onto the national news, he cheers. The more bad press Minneapolis gets, the harder it is for people to learn about how great the city is.
