3. These are the ones we raise

They're called Jacobs and they have 2 or 4 horns when grown.

They will look like one of these when they get older:

16. They are a 'heritage' breed, we are part of a preservation breeding

program. They've not been commercially bred in the US to get one specific trait like the one's for meat or milk have been. These are as random as they were centuries ago in Syria where they are thought to originate. Don't know what this year's figures are yet (lambs were just born in the past 2 months) but prior year there were less than 1,000 registered in North America and just under 5,000 left in the world.

both of which are doing a great job making sure that we don't lose the diversity of the animal population in the marketplace quest for 'one size, one trait, bigger = better' that we see in typical food production with animals.

People who are into natural fibers love to get the wool from the Jacobs, it's a very open fleece and easy to work with.

14. To catch a sheep

This wandered onto our driveway when we first moved to our rural neighborhood. And promptly wandered away again. I know of noone around here who owns or owned any sheep. Might have kept it had it stuck around.
