Why does my grocer now think I'm a crook?!
I go there sporadically; once or twice a month to get frozen fruit and milk only.

Today I go there, not been there sine May 3rd.

When their computer sees my $28 check, she has to call for the manager.

They look at my license, do a check, then tell me all is OK.

I ask why did they do all that?

They said because I've been spending more than I normally would. :wtf:

Well, I spend $30 every 2 weeks there. Used to be a LOT more before my surgery; since then I go to a different grocer whose savings are the type I frigging need right now.

I also had my licensed renewed in mid-May and the new license has a new # on it. Could this be the real reason?

15. That's the secondary store. I spend ~$200/mo at the main one.

2. It's likely really a theft/bad check problem.
I can go to the same stores at different places around town here, and some will just run my check through the machine and leave it at that. Others will make me go through the third degree.

Same with credit cards. Where there is a theft problem, they will check the card itself and enter the final 4 digits manually while holding your card, so they can confiscate it if it turns up bad.

3. Uh, why are they keeping track of how much you're spending there?
Unles you have one of those discount cards, it's none of their business.

When you get the discount card, you trade anonymity for the "special price with card" stuff (though our supermarket in town will enter a generic card number if you don't have one, and give you the special price anyway).

If you don't have the card, they have no business keeping track of your spending.

6. Have you ever bounced a check there?
Other than that, I can't think of any reason to flag a check. I'd have a talk to the manager. Hopefully you have other choices in terms of where you shop for groceries.
