Man charged for driving around geyser

A Washington man is facing federal charges for, among other offenses, spinning "doughnuts" in a Yellowstone National Park geyser area with his pickup truck.

Adam R. Elford, 22, of Vancouver, with an unnamed male companion, allegedly drove around a locked barrier, negotiated a foot and bicycle path in his truck for 2.5 miles, dismantled a second barrier, then drove erratically on the fragile soil called "sinter" that surrounds Lone Star Geyser.

The incident occurred Oct. 10, but the National Park Service did not release the information until Tuesday.

He's very lucky he didn't drive on a patch of thin ground and fall in to some scalding hot water.

There's a book you can get at any Yellowstone book store called "Deaths in Yellowstone", and it's full of stories of similar nimrods who got themselves killed doing stupid things around super-heated geyser water.

but the ground in some areas of Yellowstone is extremely hot -especially in geyser or hot spring areas- he could have melted his tires and become a perminent atraction!

3. A National Treasure deaced

Millions of people come to view the site. It's akin to graffiti on Mount Rushmore.

But alas ATV and 4-wheeling is rampant everywhere and stealing our natural heritage before we realize it.

6. Revenge

I was fly fishing for trout in north Georgia when I came across an empty 4X4 Jeep (new) sitting in the middle of the trout stream. The area is a NO MOTORIZED vehicle access area. This idiot had cut a trail up and down both sides of the bank.

I did the logical thing. Took my knife and clipped all 4 valve stems and the one on the spare. Took pics of all 4 sides and license plus the damage to the banks and hiked back to the ranger station. Turned the film in to them and told them where to find the jeep...

I don't get mad anymore... I just get even!
