JANESVILLE, Wis. -- The commander of the Salvation Army in Janesville has been suspended after being accused of sending a pornographic picture of himself to a detective posing as a young boy on the Internet. Maj. David Taube told The Janesville Gazette he takes responsibility for his conduct, is embarrassed and is getting help.
Taube said the person he was chatting with indicated he was a 14-year-old boy, but Taube didn't believe him. He wouldn't say what sort of Internet chat room he was in when he met the Florida detective posing as a 14-year-old. Taube told the newspaper he fell into Internet porn, but "not kiddies."
He is suspended with pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and an investigation by the Salvation Army.
A divisional commander said Taube's wife, Patricia, is also a major and will be in charge of the Janesville office during her husband's suspension. Maj. Bruce Bailey said he's not sure how the allegations against Taube will affect the couple's planned transfer to Kansas City at the end of June.
