I saw "Crash" tonight

Took the Prophetess out for her birthday, which is tomorrow.

Powerful movie. I think I am going to need to see it again to absorb more. I understand racism as a concept, and get that it in some ways is a coping mechanism for people dissatisfied with things that happen to them. Nevertheless, what I have never gotten is how so many people (and I do think it is very widespread) carry racist sentiments while still coexisting in society. What has always come through for me very clearly when I deal with other people is how the same we all are-we all are born with limited skills, and we need to figure out what is important about life, by ourselves, before we die...and of course we all die.
In a setup like that, how can anyone complain about someone else because of their race? It's absurd.

Spader/Hunter/Unger version was just fine.

5. The new "Crash" movie has a completely different plot

This one is about racism in America whereas the Spader movie was about people who get sexually aroused by car crashes. If you haven't seen the new one, I highly recommend it.

It's a much better rendition of the theme of our connections in this world. But, I loved "Crash."

Even though Tom Cruise is in it, I loved it. You'll see how "Crash" really did mirror "Magnolia" - frogs, not snow.

It's very strange, involved film. Really remarkable. And - like "Crash" - a great soundtrack.

I could go on for days on how I was affected by it when I first saw it; absoultely brilliant film. And Jason Robard's "regret" sppech is probably my favorite scene in any film in a long, long time..

Wasn't that Robards' last movie? I think it was, which made that speech all the more poignant.

Normally, I cannot abide Tom Cruise, but he was brilliant in this one, as was Julianne Moore. I mean, when you realize how much she loved him .........

8. I haven't seen "Crash" yet!

My wife wants to go, so we'll see it either this weekend of next; is it as good as the buzz it's been getting?

That was Robards'last movie; he was just an amazing actor, and having both Julianne Moore and Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing off him made it all the more incredible to watch. Seriosly, I could go on for dayts about this movie (and have, much to the chagrin of friends), so I'll shut up:)

And the soundtrack is awesome, too; I love Aimee Mann's stuff..

14. I don't think the buzz does it justice

It's very disturbing, disruptive, yet smooth. I was utterly captivated by Matt Dillon, who's always reminded me of some comic book character.

I'll look for your take on it. The soundtrack comes out on June 7. I've already ordered it - along with a copy of M*A*S*H* (the movie) on DVD - we saw it on AMC the other day, and it was SO fucking brilliant, I couldn't believe it - thirty-five years later!

I just know you're going to enjoy "Crash."
