What's a spooky song you like?
Like Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen. Half-light by Tomandandy is another.

17. I Put A Spell On You
The Screamin' Jay Hawkins version is a classic, recorded under the influence of Italian Swiss Colony Muscatel.

The Creedence Clearwater Revival version is damn good too!

27. 'What's He Doing In There?' - Tom Waits
Hell, about half of Waits' entire catalog can be described as "spooky".

I may be slightly off with the title of that song - in a hurry and can't look it up.

29. "Walk on Gilded Splinters" by Dr John the Nightripper

Although the lyrics aren't original--see the book "Voodoo in New Orleans" for the source. The entire "Gris Gris" album showed Mack Rebennack's acquaintance with the Loas & the Saints; they've appeared time & again in his long career.

"The Werewolf" on "The Moray Eels Eat the Holy Modal Rounders" is truly "haunting"--again, the whole album is a bit deranged.

I'll agree with others that Richard Thompson & Tom Waits can also spin some dark magic.

And--Tibetan monks chanting (with two notes from every throat), accompanying themselves on horns made of human thigh bones & drums made of skulls really are capable of manifesting weirdness. Especially if you hear them live.

33. "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath, from the album "Black Sabbath"
What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me,
Turn 'round quick and start to run,
Find out I'm the chosen one
Oh, No!

Big black shape with eyes of fire,
Telling people their desire
Satan sitting there he's smiling
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh, No, No please God help me!

Is it the end, my friend?
Satan's come around the bend,
People running 'cos they're scared
Ya people better go and beware
No! No! Please! No!

Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 09:09 PM by cedahlia
Kim Thayil's guitar playing, and Chris Cornell's singing in that song really creeps me out (but in a good way--the song rocks!) It's just disturbing to me for some reason...just the thought of listening to that song, while driving alone, at night, in the middle of nowhere...eeeeeeee! :o

And as you mentioned, "Killing Moon" is a beautifully brilliant, spooky song, indeed.
