Sweet PowerPoint Irony!
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 10:42 AM by KurtNYC
I'm helping a co-worker with a powerpoint presentation. Powerpoint may be the most communication-damaging software ever devised. 200 words, about 2 minutes worth of reading, can fill 10 slides and be doled out (read aloud) at a meeting for half an hour. This is from a presentation regarding how to evaluate employees and their skills:

Writing Skills

Measures an individual's ability write clearly and concisely and to deliver issues based reports.

from the same source:

Client Relations & Ownership

Measures an individual's: management of the client relationship through understanding the clients needs and expectations; and meeting/exceeding those needs and expectations.

To paraphrase the famous quote: PowerPoint corrupts absolutely.

4. I agree, Powerpoint is dreck, but this looks like a case of GIGO, too
LOL! Powerpoint was just made for managers who want to feel self-important. It's an idiot program that lets them say, Look at me! I'm designing! I'm creating slides!! I'm communicating!!!

5. Like blaming the english language for Bushisms.
PowerPoint allows people to make presentations. It does nothing to force them to make GOOD presentations. That's the users responsibility.

6. It keeps my students interested.
Not in my presentations -- nothing could do that -- but in their own presentations. They really like to do them in power point. I grade 'em on content, but I think they actually produce better content for the presentations than they would with index cards.
