I am sick of Linux.
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/

Well, sick of corporate-hijacked Linux. Especially given the crap treatment Novell gave me regarding a bug in THEIR propriatery installer and answering me by telling me the procedure I already told them to fix the smaller problem... f'idiots... "free support" has so many limitations and on so many mundane issues... and the pay-for support is for blocks of 20 (twenty) minutes only; holy extortion Batman! (I didn't pay and I did figure out the problem long before they got back to me, so maybe I'm not as thick as I like to think myself as being.)

Bye Novell. Hello Ubuntu.

1. You had me worried
for a few seconds.

But "propriatery installer" still leaves me at a guess which one in particular you're talking about.

5. Novell (was SuSE)
Their YaST proprietary installer is copyrighted and closed-source.

They basically take the free work everybody else makes, package it with their closed-source packaging, sell it for grody costs, offer 'free support' that's a joke, and have training/certification courses that cost THOUSANDS.

Linux has a model of computer society that should be real life society as well. Instead, some corporate suit is hijacking it for personal gain. That's almost as bad as slavery. Maybe worse as once more companies do this sort of thing (like Red Hat), those volunteer programmers will stop developing completely. I wouldn't blame them.

So, in essence, corporate america sickens me once again.

9. Cool.
I'm sure there has to be a reason why SUSE is still 'mixed source'; otherwise they'd allow free full commercial-free downloads from their ftp site.

2. Running Fedora Core 4 beta right now...
...and I'm liking it a lot. Haven't had the time to try Ubuntu although it sounds like I should make the time. I hear a lot about it from others.

11. The real thing comes out in a few days
I like to wait for the "official" releases, although it's nice to hear good about the betas.

What are the best new features in FC4, in your opinion?

4. Any reason why Ubuntu instead of regular ol' Debian?
Tried Ubuntu before, it's OK, but it's "Debian lite" more or less, with access to smaller repositories of software (at least without adding your own)

8. I'll looksee. If it will run:
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 06:04 PM by HypnoToad
Unreal tournament 2k4
Crossover Office
Doom3
SimCity 3000 for Linux
and
Neverwinter NIghts

then I'll switch.

Also, Apple took FreeBSD and made OS X. And didn't bother to drop the prices of their computers to compensate for hijacking freeware.

I'm also a bottom-boy so I find that pic offensive. :D :P

10. LOL
I googled images for FreeBSD looking for just a simple daemon pic - and that was one of the first ones that showed up. I couldn't resist.
