has anyone here heard of fallout boy?
i am absolutely amazed at how many people, especially uncool, don't know shit about music people have heard of this band.

they're from chicago but their drummer is from milwaukee and i have known him for a few years now.

they all played in hardcore and metal bands for years and just got together as fallout boy to joke around...but when they started writing good songs they had other ideas...

i think it is hilarious because when i was in high school some kids would make fun of me for going to milwaukee every weekend (i grew up an hour away) and hanging out with loser metalheads.

and now those kids love fallout boy. those same loser metalheads i used to hang out with.

and that is the end of my name dropping/simple irony post

2. I think I might have an album or two by them on my harddrive
But I can't keep track of all the stuff I have so I'm not sure. I have heard of them though.

21. I do the same thing to some of my friends.
I leave posts while talking to them and then tell them that I posted to them. They always try to one-up me on the reply. There is a music message board that I go to that has nothing but posts by me and another person trying to one up each other while im'ing each other at the same time.
After awhile some of the other posters started complaining that they wanted in on the joke so we just started cutting and pasting our im conversations on the boards.

but here's a nice article about em, for anyone who cares

Fall Out Boy Rise Up
Chicago punks seize the charts with attitude

Pete Wentz first realized his band Fall Out Boy was huge when the floor started to collapse at a gig. He was playing bass on a Warped Tour stop in Detroit last summer and 4,000 kids were packed into an area meant to hold 350.

"It's like being one of the guys on the Titanic -- you don't realize it's sinking until they tell you it's sinking, but you notice these bizarre things happening," recalls Wentz, 25. "Like, the stage isn't level."

Fall Out Boy cut off their set after two songs that day, but the melodic Chicago punk quartet survived for a Warped encore -- on the main stage this summer. Helped by relentless touring and an aggressive online marketing push, the band's second CD, From Under the Cork Tree, debuted at Number Nine earlier this month, selling 68,000 copies.

22. you are right
at one of their first shows, they were playing and they still didn't have a name. so in between songs they asked people to shout out band names because they needed one. some kid yelled out fall out boy...and they liked it so much they kept it

Any band that names themselves a Simpsons reference is cool by me...even though the band Evergreen Terrace scares me, haha.
