Can some one tell me
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 04:00 PM by DoYouEverWonder

1. Who in the world ever came up with the idea that to worship god everyone should get on the floor and stick their butts up in the air?

2. What do you do when the guy in front of you cuts a big one?

edit: oops wrong pic, this is the right one.

1. Intelligent life from other planets
would assume we are insane, and they'd be right.

3. No sillier than
Having to sit, stand, kneel, in a Catholic Church.

I never needed to calesthenics as a kid because of that

4. Yes, Catholicism...
Having to kneel in front of a priest at groin level to get a yucky wafer shoved in yer mouth...(I guess they could have had alternatives, so maybe I shouldn't bitch)...

Took me 25 years+ to get rid of the guilt & problems Catholicism foisted on me...

5. Actually, during my confirmation
they had the bishop sitting in a throne on the alter and you were supposed to walk up three steps and kneel while he did his thing. Well, they made us wear these long gowns, so that when I went up I stepped on the hem and landed face first in the Bishop's lap. They had to peel me off of the poor guy.

7. Confirmation
I went up to receive, and the Deacon said "Body of Christ". They never told us what to do, so I just said "sure!", and ate it.

Actually that was the first and last time I received Communion. On the rare occasions I am in a Church, I don't take Communion. I'd just feel like a hypocrite if I did.

17. During our Catholic School's Confirmation I.......
was sitting right behind a kid named Ross (Ross Swanson)?
Anyway when the Bishop came down to the pew and asked Ross one of the Catechism questions, Ross jumped to his feet cutting one HUGE Juicy FART....

The rest of us (of course) had our heads bowed but you could see the tears on the guy next to you, trying to keep from laughing.

I'll never forget it...

6. I think they're bowing
I wouldn't call it getting on the floor and sticking their butts in the air...

9. Not "moonies"
I am sure that it is more placing one's head on the ground to show humility before God that is the issue with the Muslim prayer posture.
Hate to be the party-pooper, but I do feel that anything like this that could be percieved as mocking religious beliefs is unseemly for liberals, and could backfire on what it is we are trying to accomplish...
I'm sorry but I don't think it's appropriate.

8. Well, one thing I've learned by observing religions around the world...
... God doesn't love you unless you wear a funny hat.

10. So how is this thread different than one we'd call intolerant elsewhere?
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 04:53 PM by Richardo
If the FR's posted this exchange many DUer's would come down on them like a load of bricks for being Islam-o-phobes.

And they'd have a point.

And I'm not even going to address the increasingly commonplace Catholic ridicule, which bothers me also.

12. They are just preparing to recieve
their rewards from the priest.

He picks the one he likes best and calls him to the back later...oh wait...that's the catholic church. I don't know why the Islams would do it...posture of total submission I guess.

11. Well...this is fairly tolerant of religion, eh?
1. It's called being humble before Allah. (Not my thing, but who am I to criticize?)

2. I would assume you'd be too involved in prayer to care.

15. Thanks for the welcome
And for agreeing that perhaps practicing what we preach would be one good way of being taken seriously!
