Denver weather can be intense..
It started about 2 hours ago.. First thunder and lightning.. About 10 hits right outside my front door, then hail, then hard rain, then flooding, then a tornado warning, then my cable and internet went out, then I lost power. All clear now and power and Internet are back.. Being cut off from all communications is scary during a tornado warning. I guess I should buy myself a radio that runs on batteries.

Apparently there's some major flooding around my area, I'm off to check it out.

today that's run on led(Light emitted diodes)that he got at radio shack..you just pull on the lever and you don't needs batteries, either. http://www.mtmi.vu.lt/pfk/funkc_dariniai/diod/led.htm

Denver weather can be intense..I was in a multi-million$$$ hail storm in July 1991. The most costly hail storm EVER!

2. Or: skip the batteries altogether...
...and get Grundig Crank AM/FM/Shortwave FR200 Radio (URL has been tiny'd for your convenience.)

"...only one minute of winding to get up to an hour of playing time."

3. I used to have a cheap crank radio and the crank broke
the second time I used it.. I assume the Grundig is built a bit better? There's also the CC radios I hear about on Art Bell. They are tempting.

4. Well you could go top of the line and get the one from Sharper Image...
...but I'm betting that Grundig still makes a pretty darned good radio.

I may get one myself. :)

5. Grundigs are fantastic!
My grandfather was a huge fan of radios. He always recommended Grundigs to anyone who would listen, stating that they were some of the better ones on the market for a reasonable price. When I graduated from high school he gave me an old SuperRadio as a present and told me to hang on to it. It is both electric and battery operated and has the best reception nearly thirteen years later that I have ever heard. It's gotten me through alot of bad weather and camping trips over the years and I would never trade it off for anything.

6. I spent a summer in the mountains outside of Denver.
Man, those thunderstorms are wild! Blew out my fax machine one time.

Then, it started snowing in early September. It could snow in May or June even.

We get lots of rain and clouds here but I'll take it over Colorado weather any day!

7. Fort Carson was intense too
But here it only lasts about 15 minutes and then the show is over. Plus the rain seems to go right over or around and mainly hit Co. Springs. The lightning and wind were intense. A neighbor had a big tent-like canopy set up (I don't know what it is called) -- it blew the FRAME right out from under the canopy! I was afraid the guy would get electrocuted when he was out rescuing it.
