My dog is now at home

She dislocated her hips. Both of them. She is not able to walk around right now so I have to carry her everywhere.
The positive side of her getting hit by a car is that we found out that she has a degenerative hip disease of some sort. That means that I can now do some preventative treatments to keep her from getting worse. And my daughter is very happy that she made it home.
At least she didn't die like I originally thought she would. She gets to lounge around the house getting bowls of milk and some decent pain pills. She doesn't even have to get up and walk. She seems happy w/ her lot in life right about now.

Thanks again to everyone who was so nice to me in the middle of my little melodrama yesterday morning!

2. She loves it.

She doesn't even have to go outside-for the next week she gets to wear a diaper around the house. After that she has an appointment at the vet to check her hips again.
He said that she is very lucky to be alive.

7. fantastic ...

my previous dog was hit by a car and i got a call that she had been killed ... then, poof ... the vet called me and told me she was alive ...

then they wanted me to put her down because they thought she received such a bad blow to the head she would never walk again ... i finally figured out that the reason she couldn't walk was because she had a badly broken leg that the vet failed to diagnose ...

"we were so focussed on her brain injury, we never x-rayed he leg" the vet told me ... unbelievable ... she was six when it happened; she lived until she was 16 and a half ...

it's fantastic that your pup made it through the crisis ...

She has a degenerative bone disease so that doesn't help the healing process but she will survive w/o very much pain at least.
Putting her in diapers for the next week has already proven to not be fun. It's like having a baby in the house all over again!

13. Moe is happy she survived!

This is one of my six beagle/beagle/american eskimo/ and 57 other flavor mix dogs! This little guy is my constant companion and little buddy. He won't go more than 10 feet from me when I am home and he can be found sitting in my truck most mornings waiting to go to work with me. ( he hasn't made the trip yet)

A dog is mans only true friend, they give so much and expect so little. They aren't petty or rude, they just want to be with you.

I really am so happy for you and your daughter for the survival of your little buddy- may she live to a ripe old age and pass peacefully with no pain and knowing she was loved.

He named her Mike. Two weeks later she became my dog. The name stuck. She's not the brightest dog in the world and was barely answering to one name. I figured that it was wise not to keep changing the names around.
So Mike she is!

I had a dog like that. He was a Norwegian Elkhound and for a month or so I had to help him outside to do his thing by using a towel to hold up his back end. They heal so quickly and are so stoic about it all.

I am glad to know she is OK.

21. She's not stoic.

She a whiner and complainer by nature and is just eating up the extra attention. She's still small enough (about 33 pounds) that I can fit an extra large baby diaper on her. She loves this-especially w/ all of the storms from today!
I am glad that she's home-it didn't sound the same w/o her whining and crying about something.

I'm happy things turned out well.

I once sideswiped a dog - I felt absolutely horrible! The dog was on a leash and broke away from the boy who was walking it - ran between two cars and suddenly shot out in front of me. I caught it with the front bumper on the passenger side - scared the crap out of me and I stopped and leaped out. Dog was out cold and I was very upset, offered to take it to the vet and pay for its treatment but the boy's mom assured me it wasn't my fault and she'd take care of it. I gave her my number and asked her to call and let me know how it turned out.

I don't remember what was going on but I didn't get home for a couple of hours and when I got in, I immediately asked my roommate if the lady had called. He said, "oh, yeah, she did. the dog died." I was horrified and devastated - then he said, "just kidding. it's fine."

I could have killed him. Anyway, I'm so glad your dog is safe at home getting spoiled. What a relief that must be!

22. It is quite a relief.

She was hit by a car that was speeding in a residential neighborhood. She ran out of the house and was hit before I could catch her. What made me mad was how fast the car was going (a witness estimated it at 40+) in a neighborhood w/ a 15 mph speed limit. And the car didn't even stop. It just kept going.
That could have been someones kid.

If that were me, I think I would have beaten him to unconsciousness. I'm glad that doggy was okay.

We have a deaf child in my neighborhood. She cannot hear cars honking at her. If she became preoccupied and went to cross the street (maybe chasing down a ball or something) she would not hear the cars zoom across or even a horn honking.
She was out at the time of the accident. She could have been the one who was hurt.

she is getting around better than 2 years ago.

ask your vet about this regime. it has worked wonders for my dog kodi.

when she starts to feel a little bit better and she is off of the pain medication. He told me to just go to my local health food store or pharmacy and pick it up w/ the dietary suppliments so I plan to the first chance that I can.

29. those comboed with msm yield a synergy for some reason.

my neighbor with fairly old horses uses the combination and the msm seems to reduce inflammations in the joints.

it works with kodi too, but recently she has begun a regime of 100mg of rimidyl a day (she's 135 pounds). there is a chance of kidney impact, and to find out one should check the kidney enzymes before and 2 weeks, 2 months after initiating the regime.

kodi's were checked after 2 months and has shown no changes, so it appears the drug has no deliterious affect, so far.. i will check the enzymes every few months anyway.

its been an amazing change for the better with kodi, i hope your 4-legged buddy heals up.

onew other thing, i use a liquid glucosamine mixture called "syn-Flex" you can get it over the net, it appears to work better than the pill form of the glucosamine/chondroitin.

do a google for "syn flex"and add "arthritis" and you can find the website that offers it. i spend $35/month for it.

I am happy for you! I was certain that she'd have to be put down.

Give her lots of love and be glad that you have her in your life for longer than you had expected. Sometimes is best to prepare for the worst, so that when good news comes, you are overwhelmingly happy.
