Oh FUCK I'm having a craving for a tomato sandwich.
But none of my tomatoes in the garden are ripe, yet. And I have NONE in the fridge.

Just imagine, a juicy, homegrown, ripe, red Better Boy tomato, sliced thick, placed on Bunny bread, slathered with Hellman's, sprinkled with sea salt and black pepper.

Now I have a craving and no way to quiet it. :grr:

4. I'm neither.
I walked in the garden today, and you could just smell the fragrance of the tomato plants, and it started my craving then.

I never had cravings when I was pregnant. Stoned? Nothing better than a 79-cent frozen pizza covered with mustard and pickles.

8. I've always heard that you should NEVER refrigerate tomatos.
Keep them out, on the counter, in a basket, but keep them out of the refrigerator.

Just a PSA from the Cheese. (and you really should refrigerate cheese). :)

10. I leave them on the counter until they fully ripen...
and then they go in the fridge, because nothing is better than cold sliced tomatoes. :hi:

12. okie-dokie.
Sandwich sounds good, and there's a ripe tomato on the counter, but it doesn't belong to me (I'm visiting my parents). Would I be a terrible person if I ate it without asking first?

BTW - on your sandwich, add just a splash of dill. Ummmm.... :)

18. Nah, I'd have to be the one to buy it for them.
They're pretty elderly, so getting around is kind of hard.

I decided to raid the fridge, and found a jar of Milwaukee's Best Midget Dill Pickles, and some Vienna Bread. :9

21. This was on Good Eats recently
Apparently when tomatoes are exposed to temperatures under 50 degrees, a n enzyme responsible for flavor shuts off and can't be turned back on again.

when I was a kid. People thought we were crazy. It was just another strange thing my mother did.

29. Sounds weird but tasty to me
Kids in my neighborhood used to make sugar sandwiches -- white bread with margarine and white sugar. My family didn't do that.

I do appreciate a sliced tomato on white bread with mayo sandwich like the OP.

23. Yum...I'd never had a "tomato sandwich" before.
Always there were other ingredients involved, but your craving was spot-on. It was a good sandwich: sourdough wheat bread, mayo and very good tomatoes. Mmmmm...yummy.

Am I making your craving worse? Oh, I'm sorry. I'll private message my last tomato to you, 'kay?
