29 Oct. 2003 - Rock star Courtney Love has surrendered to Beverly Hills police to face drug possession charges stemming from her arrest earlier this month after breaking windows at a boyfriend's house.

Love, 39-year-old singer for rock band Hole and widow of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, was charged with felony possession of the prescription painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone. Rush Limbaugh allegedly purchased over 30,000 of these same pills over a four-year period, also without a prescription.

Prosecutors said Love, who also lost custody of her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain following her arrest, was expected to appear in court for an arraignment on the charges later on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Love could not immediately be reached for comment.

It was not immediately clear if she would face jail time if convicted and Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, said the singer could be eligible for a drug diversion program that would spare her going behind bars. Typically in such cases, the accused seeks asylum in a rehabilitation institution, such as Rush Limbaugh has, in lieu of serving prison time.

Isn't it time we got tough on criminals like Limbaugh & locked 'em up & threw away the key?

I mean just ones like Limbaugh, of course.

1. Because Rush wasn't breaking windows at his boyfriend's house?
I agree that the law should be applied equally in equal situations, but the cases ARE materially different.

2. Actually, she had oxycodone
Which is a different drug - I think it's generic percodan. And that certainly doesn't excuse the blatant coddling of Rush, who is/was on a much stronger and more controlled drug.
