Share/freeware web-development software?
Anybody know of a location on the internet where I might snag a copy of some good share/freeware web development programs (like Frontpage)?

Thank you kindly!

1. BBEdit has a 30 day free trial version

Might not be quite what you're looking for, though, since it's not a "WYSIWYG" editor.

on edit: I forgot, it's only for Macs

5. For an editor, get Arachinophilia, which is,ummmm,
care-ware or something like that (read the guy's web page; it's an interesting philosophy he's got). And for an ftp client, I really like Leech.

13. One thing to note
is that the newer versions of Arachnophilia are written in Java, so the program is sluggish compared to the way it used to be.

11. not sure what you are looking for...
... the gamut of tools you could use to create web pages runs from simple text editors to wysiwyg fancy-pants programs.

I prefer just using a text editor myself. Maybe one with syntax highlighting would help a bit. Anachrophilia is a decent program and it is free.

I don't like the wysiwyg tools because they always create HTML that it all but uneditable, just no formatting whatsoever. Of course, if you can do *everything* you want to do in the tool, you may not need to manually edit the HTML. But I've never found that to be the case yet.

Of course, depending on what kind of site you are doing you might also need a graphic program of some sort, but that is a whole 'nother question :)

14. My fave text editor
and probably my most oft-used program aside from a browser is Notetab:

http://www.notetab.com

Comes in a non-crippled freeware version and a couple of flavors of shareware. Very, very good.

12. Buncha stuff here...

http://www.pricelessware.org/2003/PL2003WEBDESIGN.htm

I've used 1st Page 2000 and Arachnophilia-- they work, and are vastly cheaper than Dreamweaver. I know a couple of web developers who swear by Coffee Cup, also cheaper than Dreamweaver, but not as cheap as free.

Most of the time, I just used a simple text editor and manually did the coding. This falls down when you have a bazillion pages to deal with, or wierd frames and style sheets.

Word, WordPerfect, Open Office, and Easy Office, along with most other word processors, have export to HTML functions, although they can generate worse spaghetti code than Frontpage on a bad day-- and still not get it right.
