4. Kind of. For a while longer anyway.
I was with TWA, who went belly up for the final time in 2001.
The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp. (PBGC) took over my pension plan.
Of course they are heavily underfunded now, so who knows how much longer I'll collect?

5. I ask because my husband works for an airline and this
United activity has us worried. I hope you continue to collect, trof, as you've earned it.

7. It is worrisome.
I have some retired friends who were with United and they are screwed. The maximum paid by the PBGC is less than half of what they were getting. Just tough noogies, I guess. "Planning" your retirement turned out to be a useless exercise.

Without going into all the details, my pension is so small that it wasn't affected by the changeover.

...today, what's the best route to pilotage? Military, commercial, or washing dishes?

I ask because my wakeboard instructor is currently working on it, and hs eschewed #'s 1 and 2. :)

10. Military.
1. They pay YOU to learn.
2. Best training in the world.
3. Airlines still prefer military pilots.

Getting licenses privately is very expensive, but getting into military flight program is more difficult now.

12. Simple answer: Makes no difference.
More complicated: It probably does, but still doable.
When I was in there were NO female pilots. A lot has changed since then.

22. as a mechanic I have to ask
Why do you guys insist that "...a good landing is any landing you can walk away from..." when we know the truth is "A good landing is one where you can re-use the equipment"?

Seriously though...which plane was your favourite? Personally, I've always liked the 727 Shortie...
