Post your favorite lyrics here, in honor of the DU lyric king coloradodem
AMELIA - Joni Mitchell

I was driving across the burning desert
When I spotted six jet planes
Leaving six white vapor trails across the bleak terrain
It was the hexagram of the heavens
it was the strings of my guitar
Amelia, it was just a false alarm

The drone of flying engines
Is a song so wild and blue
It scrambles time and seasons if it gets thru to you
Then your life becomes a travelogue
Of picture-post-card-charms
Amelia, it was just a false alarm

People will tell you where they've gone
They'll tell you where to go
But till you get there yourself you never really know
Where some have found their paradise
Other's just come to harm
Oh Amelia, it was just a false alarm

I wish that he was here tonight
It's so hard to obey
His sad request of me to kindly stay away
So this is how I hide the hurt
As the road leads cursed and charmed
I tell Amelia, it was just a false alarm

A ghost of aviation
She was swallowed by the sky
Or by the sea, like me she had a dream to fly
Like Icarus ascending
On beautiful foolish arms
Amelia, it was just a false alarm

Maybe I've never really loved
I guess that is the truth
I've spent my whole life in clouds at icy altitude
And looking down on everything
I crashed into his arms
Amelia, it was just a false alarm

I pulled into the Cactus Tree Motel
To shower off the dust
And I slept on the strange pillows of my wanderlust
I dreamed of 747s
Over geometric farms
Dreams, Amelia, dreams and false alarms

1. What happened to the other thread?
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:28 PM by Droopy
You're just too good to be true
Can't keep my eyes off you
You'd feel like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much.

5. misunderstanding
I got myself so tightly wound I couldn't breathe
I could feel the fire burning underneath

I wanted to get lost and love the questions there
Beauty and the truth I could breathe like air
Then I finally found the signposts in a strange land

Logic dances you from here to there not very far
Making sense can't tell where you are

2. Beat on the Brat
RAMONES LYRICS

"Beat On The Brat"

Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat with a baseball bat
Oh yeah, oh yeah, uh-oh.

What can you do?
What can you do?
With a brat like that always on your back
What can you do? (lose?)

3. .
Well my temperature's rising and my feet are on the floor
Twenty people knocking 'cos they're wanting some more
Let me in baby, I don't know what you've got
But you'd better take it easy, this place is hot

refrain:
I'm so glad we made it, I'm so glad we made it
You've gotta gimme some lovin' (gimme some lovin')
Gimme some lovin' (gimme gimme some lovin'), gimme some lovin' every day

Well I feel so good, everything is sounding hot
Better take it easy 'cos the place is on fire
Been a hard day and I don't know what to do
Wait a minute baby, it could happen to you

refrain

Well I feel so good, everybody's getting high
Better take it easy 'cos the place is on fire
Been a hard day and nothing went too good
Now I'm gonna relax honey, everybody should

refrain

Gimme some lovin' (gimme some lovin') I need it
(Gimme gimme some lovin') I need it
Ooh, gimme some lovin', every day, every day

4. I love this song. My band used to play it when we closed our last set.
Rock on--gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon,
And dig your grave

Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray

Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise--loves--to go down
Lousy lovers--pick their prey
But they never cry out loud

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.

Rock on--ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow

Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now--do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.

6. "City Hall" by Tenacious D
All you people up there in City Hall,
You're fuckin' it up for the people that's in the streets.
This is a song for the people in the streets,
Not the people City Hall.
All you motherfuckers in the streets it's time to rise up,
Come along children and fuckin' rise!

Lots of times when me and KG are watchin'
All the fuckin' shit that goes down at City Hall,
We get the feeling we should fuck shit up,
Yeah we should fuckin' start a riot.
A Riot!

We have 'em screaming in the streets,
we have 'em tippin' over shit and breakin' fuckin' windows of small businesses,
and settin' fuckin' fires!
and settin' fuckin' fires!
and settin' fuckin' fires!

And then after the smoke is cleared,
and the rubble has been swept away,
me and KG will peek out our heads.
We've been watching the riots on a monitor twenty floors below sea level,
from a bunker.

We did it Rage-Kage, we beat the bastards of City Hall!
But now what will we do?
We must rebuild. But who will lead us in the rebuilding process?
Man, it's got to be someone with the know-how
and the elbow grease to lead us to a new land.
No, not me and KG, we don't have the cognitive capacity to lead...
Alright, we'll do it!

We'll lead as Two Kings,
We'll lead as Two Kings.
Ahhhaaa (Two Kings, we'll lead as Two Kings)
Ah-ha ah-how,
We'll lead as Two Kings.

The first decree is to legalize marijuana.
The tyranny and the bullshit's gone on too long.
You old fuckin' shrivs who blocked it's legalization,
you're banished from the land!

We'll lead as Two Kings,
We'll lead as Two Kings.
Ahhhaaa (Two Kings, we'll lead as Two Kings)
Ah-ha ah-how,
Lead as Two Kings.

The second decree: no more pollution, no more car exhaust,
or ocean dumpage. From now on, we will travel in tubes!

We'll lead as Two Kings, oh, yeah,
We'll fuckin' lead as Two Kings.

Get the scientists working on the tube technology, immediately.
(Tube technology.) Chop, chop, let's go.

Third decree: no more... rich people: and poor people.
From now on, we will all be the same... ummm, I dunno,
I gotta think about that...

We'll lead as Two Kings
Ah yeah, ah yeahhhahahaha.
Ha-ha-ho-hee, ha-ha-ho-hee-ha-ha-ho-ho-ho-ho.

Oh my God.
Ahh... What?
Dude, the red phone is flashing.
Oh, yeah.
Let me scoop that up. Hello? Two Kings.
Who is it?
What?! No! No fucking way!
What?
Rage, there's a potato famine in Idaho, you gotta go down there!
Oh my God... what?
Dude, I gotta stay here!
Why do I have to go?
Please! Please!
Oh, God, okay.
Awesome... is he gone? Alright, emergency meeting of Parliament.
All right Parliament, I know this is fucked up,
but Rage, he can't be King anymore.
Dudes, he's encroaching on my decrees!
Seriously, let's make him "Duke," a kick ass "Duke."
Or "leader formerly known as King," but-- uh-oh he's comin' back...

We'll lead as Two Kings, oh yes
we'll really lead as Two Kings.

Uh, dude?
Rage.
I went all over Idaho...
Yeah?
Uh, plenty of potatoes everywhere.
What? There was no famine?
Yeah, there was no famine, no.
Dude.
I don't know what's uh...
A toast...
A toast...
Long live the "D."
Long live the "D."

Long live me. I'm sorry, I poisoned your wine.
What?
For the good of the land.
You p-- I poisoned yours... huh heh, as well.
Noooooooooo!!!!!
No!

City, city, city, city, city, city, shitty.
Shitty, city, shitty, shitty, city, city, shitty.
Hall, hall, hall, hall, hall, hall, hall, hall.

People inside me are askin' me to smoke up City Hall,
'Cause no one here is talkin'.
People inside me are askin' me to blow up City Hall,
'Cause no one here is rockin'.

People inside me are askin' me to blow up City Hall,
'Cause everyone is Rock-'em Sock-'em Robots.
Everyone is Rock-'em Sock-'em Robots.
Everyone is Rock-'em Sock-'em GO! OH!

18. More D, because they fucking rock
"Friendship"

Friendship is rare,
Do you know what I'm sayin' to you?
Friendship is rare.
My derriere,
When you find out much later
That they don't really care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?

Oh shit there's a bear,
Could you hand me that shotgun buddy,
Also that chair?
We're fighting a bear
Now your life's in grave danger
And you don't even care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me,
Say a prayer for me,
'Cause it's rare to be
In Tenacious D.

Friends will be friends
They're running naked in the sand,
Friends holding hands
Will someday surely form a band,
Friends will be friends
They say that friends are friends
To the bitter end.
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!

Friends will be friends
They're running naked in the sand,
Friends holding hands
Will someday surely form a band,
Friends will be friends
They say that friends are friends
To the bitter end.
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!
Long as there's a record deal we'll always be friends, yeah

7. All I Want Is You- U2
You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want
Your story to remain untold

But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you’ll give me
A highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night

You say you’ll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you want
Your love to work out right
To last with me through the night

You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold

All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...

Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:42 PM by Floogeldy
Everybody's doin' a brand new dance now
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)
I know you'll get to like it
If you give it a chance now
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)

My little baby sister can do it with me
It's easier than learning your a b c's
So come on, come on,
Do the loco-motion with me

You gotta swing your hips now
Come on baby, jump up, hmmm jump back
Oh well I think you got the knack

Now that you can do it
Let's make a chain now
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)
Chug-a chug-a motion like a railway train now
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)

Do it nice and easy now don't lose control
A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul
So come on, come on,
Do the loco-motion with me

You gotta swing your hips now
Come on, come on,
Do the loco-motion with me
Yeah

Move around the floor in a loco-motion
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)
Do it holding hands if you got the notion
(C'mon baby do the loco-motion)

There's never been a dance that's so easy to do
It even makes you happy
When you're feeling blue
So come on come on do the loco-motion with me

You gotta swing your hips now

Come on, come on,
Do the loco-motion with me
Yeah

Come on, come on,
Do the loco-motion with me
You gotta swing your hips now

9. Here's a good positive song
I listen to it when I am feeling beat up by the world, and it always picks me up.

You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man I can tell
You've got it all in the palm of your hand
But your hand's wet with sweat and your head needs a rest

And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
How can you be such an angry young man
When your future looks quite bright to me
How can there be such a sinister plan
That could hide such a lamb, such a caring young man

You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
Get up, get back on your feet
You're the one they can't beat and you know it
Come on, let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot and don't blow it

You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're killing yourself if you don't believe it
Get up, get back on your feet
You're the one they can't beat and you know it
Come on, let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot and don't blow it.

23. My favorite lyrics, although of course not mine.
Oh, why aren't they do-ing
The brand new dance songs
The way they used to yes-ter-day
And who draws a per-fect cir-cle an-y-more?

And if you're wait-ing for great-ness
To come up and grab you
You'd bet-ter dream your life a-way,
I on-ly wan-ted one thing and that's for sure...

You're not just look-ing at a fast food king,
Just an-o-ther well known face,
You're not look-ing at the king of an-y-thing...

I'm gon-na shoot for the moon, I'm gon-na play High Noon
I'm gon-na take on the en-ti-re hu-man race
You're not look-ing at a king,
You're look-ing at an ace!

(Second verse)

Oh, I've seen the sun
And I've seen the light
And I'm gon-na see the com-ing day
When the sun in the sky is a spot-light just for me!

I'm gon-na take my time
And rock some rhyme, hoo!
It's gon-na take your breath a-way
I'll be the front page rage of the age, just wait and see!

You're look-ing at a God-damned ace!
You're look-ing at an ace!
You're look-ing at an ay-ay-ay-ay-ace!

"The Ace" by Richard O'Brien

11. Changes - David Bowie
Changes
David Bowie

Still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't tell t hem to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Where's your shame
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time

Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I'm going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon you're gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

15. These are my favorite Bowie lyrics
from his masterpiece, Ziggy Stardust

Moonage Daydream

I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut, you're squawking like a big monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love, is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care
Make me jump into the air

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Freak out, far out, in out

28. Yet more Bowie ....
Yet another masterpiece from Ziggy ...

Rock 'N' Roll Suicide - David Bowie

Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
Ohhh no no no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it
And the clock waits so patiently on your song
You walk past the cafe but you don't eat when you've lived too long
Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float ride your mind
You're so natural - religiously unkind

Oh no love! you're not alone
You're watching yourself but you're too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if I could only
make you care
Oh no love! you're not alone
No matter what or who you've been
No matter when or where you've seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain
You're not alone

Just turn on with me and you're not alone
Let's turn on with me and you're not alone (wonderful)
Let's turn on and be not alone (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful (wonderful)
Oh gimme your hands.

32. or you could go this route
Ziggy Stardust

Oh
Oooh yeah
Ah
Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly
And The spiders from Mars. He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's band

Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
They came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.

So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just the beer light to guide us,
So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands?

Oh
Ooh oh

Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were voodoo
The kids were just crass, he was the nazz
With God given ass
He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar

Making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band.

Oh yeah
Ooooooo
Ziggy played guitaarrrrrr

34. Or this route!
You've got your mother in a whirl
She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl
Hey babe, your hair's alright
Hey babe, let's go out tonight
You like me, and I like it all
We like dancing and we look divine
You love bands when they're playing hard
You want more and you want it fast
They put you down, they say I'm wrong
You tacky thing, you put them on

CHORUS
Rebel Rebel, you've torn your dress
Rebel Rebel, your face is a mess
Rebel Rebel, how could they know?
Hot tramp, I love you so!

Don't ya?
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo

You've got your mother in a whirl 'cause she's
Not sure if you're a boy or a girl
Hey babe, your hair's alright
Hey babe, let's stay out tonight
You like me, and I like it all
We like dancing and we look divine
You love bands when they're playing hard
You want more and you want it fast
They put you down, they say I'm wrong
You tacky thing, you put them on

CHORUS

Don't ya?
Oh?
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo (2 times)

CHORUS

You've torn your dress, your face is a mess
You can't get enough, but enough ain't the test
You've got your transmission and your live wire
You got your cue line and a handful of ludes
You wanna be there when they count up the dudes
And I love your dress
You're a juvenile success
Because your face is a mess
So how could they know?
I said, how could they know?

So what you wanna know
Calamity's child, chi-chile, chi-chile
Where'd you wanna go?
What can I do for you? Looks like you've been there too
'Cause you've torn your dress
And your face is a mess
Ooo, your face is a mess
Ooo, ooo, so how could they know?
Eh, eh, how could they know?
Eh, eh

43. Or this route:
An environmental take:

Five Years

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer
threw up at the sight of that
I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think
you knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
We've got five years, that's all we've got

46. or a detour!
I've come on a few years from my Hollywood Highs

The best of the last, the cleanest star they ever had

I'm stiff on my legend, the films that I made

Forget that I'm fifty cause you just got paid

Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real

Smack, baby, smack, is that all that you feel

Suck, baby, suck, give me your head

Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead

You caught yourself a trick down on Sunset and Vine

But since he pinned you baby you're a porcupine

You sold me illusions for a sack full of cheques

You've made a bad connection 'cause I just want your sex

Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real

Smack, baby, smack, is that all that you feel

Suck, baby, suck, give me your head

Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead

53. And since there are so many "Cat People" at DU.....
See these eyes so green

I can stare for a thousand years

Colder than the moon

It's been so long

Feel my blood enraged

It's just the fear of losing you

Don't you know my name

Well, you been so long

And I've been putting out fire

With gasoline

See these eyes so red

Red like jungle burning bright

Those who feel me near

Pull the blinds and change their minds

It's been so long

Still this pulsing night

A plague I call a heartbeat

Just be still with me

Ya wouldn't believe what I've been thru

You've been so long

Well it's been so long

And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline

Putting out the fire

With gasoline

See these tears so blue

An ageless heart that can never mend

These tears can never dry

A judgement made can never bend

See these eyes so green

I can stare for a thousand years

Just be still with me

You wouldn't believe what I've been thru

You've been so long

Well it's been so long

And I've been putting out fire with gasoline

Putting out fire with gasoline

12. Here goes,I know it needs more cowbell.
Don't Fear the Reaper-the Blue Oyster Cult

All our times have come
Here but now they’re gone
Seasons don’t fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don’t fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don’t fear the reaper
We’ll be able to fly...don’t fear the reaper
Baby I’m your man...

Valentine is done
Here but now they’re gone
Romeo and juliet
Are together in eternity...romeo and juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...like romeo and juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...redefine happiness
Another 40,000 coming everyday...we can be like they are
Come on baby...don’t fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don’t fear the reaper
We’ll be able to fly...don’t fear the reaper
Baby I’m your man...

Love of two is one
Here but now they’re gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn’t go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared...saying don’t be afraid
Come on baby...and she had no fear
And she ran to him...then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodby...she had become like they are
She had taken his hand...she had become like they are
Come on baby...don’t fear the reaper

Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:34 PM by Dark_Leftist
Express Yourself!
Express Yourself!

You don’t ever need help from nobody else. All you got to do now:

Express Yourself!

What ever you do, do it good.
What ever you do, do it good. All right...

It’s not what you look like, when you’re doin' what you’re doin'.
It’s what you’re doin' when you’re doin' what you look like you’re doin'!

Express Yourself!
Express Yourself!

They’re doin'it on the moon, yeah...
In the jungle too.
Everybody on the floor, now.
Jumpin' like a kangaroo.
So let the horns do the thing they do, yo...

Some people have everything, and other people don’t.
But everything don’t mean a thing if it ain't the thing you want.

Express Yourself!
Express Yourself!

O, do it! O, do it.
Do it to it. Go on and do it.
Yo, do it. Give.

Express Yourself!
Express Yourself

Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums
------A Perfect Circle

don't fret precious im here,
step away from the window,
go back to sleep.

lay your head down, child.I won't let the boogeyman come...
counting bodies like sheep to the rythym of the war drum.
pay no mind to the rabble(pay no mind to the rabble)
head down go to sleep to the rythym of the war drums

pay no mind what other voices say, they dont care about you like I do.
safe from pain, and truth, and choice, and other poison devils,
see, they don't give a fuck about you like I do
just stay with me
safe and ignorant

go back to sleep,
go back to sleep.

lay your head down child I wont let the boogeyman come
counting bodys like sheep to the rythym of the war drum
pay no mind to the rabble(pay no mind to the rabble)

I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons;
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and the voice of reason,
I'll be the one to protect you from all your enemies and your choices son,
One and the same I will isolate you,Isolate and save you from yourself

17. Drug Warz...
* Pam the Funkstress scratches the phrase
"We wanna get it on - cause we don't get along" *

Now the FBI monitors with no feedback
Saw me on the street, ask me where the weed at
or the coke I don't sell and yet I don't believe that
Set me up I'm runnin breathin like a Sleestak
Ran into a car and almost bent my knee back
It's better than a cell while my lawyer's fee stack
Ducked into a liquor store they ask what you do
Wearin FUBU it was my man N'Duku
The bat and tote go through, I said, "Merci beaucoup
If they ask who was I runnin tell the bastards I flew"
Maybe to my block, plans to catch a few flicks
Police did a sweep, terrorizin grue shit
Bustin doors, beatin mammas while makin Cool Whip
Face down, gettin dirt on my back to school fit
My neighbor that was next to me got black and blue lips
When the fuse lit, you don't see the few flip
Kick our boot up they ass and ask em if the shoe fit
Til then, they wanna see us pushin up tu-lips
Frisk my nuts so much, shit I think I'm sterile
Got up, brushed the gravel off my apparel
This girl Cheryl got parole violation
Said she was high cause of pupil dilation
If you never got arrested now since infinity
You get searched livin in this vicinity
or harassed, beat the shit out - I mean, the livin daylights
Wouldn't be no dope slangin if McDonald's paid right
They target areas of black, Chinese and Mexican
Mow you down men, or they'll find your next of kin
Whites sell more cocaine and amphetamines
but the justice sentence us, more than like to credit dem
The ruling class shifts dope to you and me
And don't get arrested, this is lunacy
or is it pimp low magic in unity
Is it a war on drugs, or just my community?

Now who gets paper and who gets perved?
Who gets slapped and who gets served?
Now this type of shit get on my last nerve
I think about it in the car and I start to swerve
Who gets paper and who gets perved?
Who gets slapped and who gets served?
Now this type of shit get on my last nerve
I think about it in the car and I start to swerve

I got a commonest plot to get the federales hot
So many cops around the block ?? Tupac
You gotta flake and two rocks, and tissues in the shoebox
Convincin after two knocks, who heard of fences in your socks?
Now this is for la gente, keep it calliente
Let's send the presidente on a one way trip to casa permanente
Not a teacher but a sensei
These rhymes are for battle plus you gotta get the rent paid
I bust the donut up in front of Wenchel's
Makin police state officials with fat bones
that's made of gristle test they torque to differential
Now it's essential, our problems ain't provincial
'fore a nurse call our bodies white chalk stencils
Broke as fuck, eatin lentils with no utensils
That type of struggle motivated my pencil
It ain't mental it's material
Police are the fist of the imperial, I'm spittin through your stereo
Babies need cereal, folks need currency
My job got a crowd wavin applications fervently
Some'll get accepted, most'll get rejected
Guess they gon' til the new prison get elected
and that'll solve they unemployment streak
They'll be makin microchips for two dollars a week
That's why they packin us in there in droves and fleets
And Channel Two gon' call it cleanin up the streets

Now who gets paper and who gets perved?
Who gets slapped and who gets served?
Now this type of shit get on my last nerve
I think about it in the car and I start to swerve
Who gets paper and who gets perved?
Who gets slapped and who gets served?
Now this type of shit get on my last nerve
I think about it in the car and I start to swerve

25. Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada

Well, he was smilin' like a vulture as he rolled up the horticulture
Ignited it, and said, "I hope the vapors don't insult ya"
What I replied denied, but he mixin weed and hop
His head was noddin' up and down like he agreed a lot
Bored, said, "We need a plot," I comply, "Let's leave the spot"
Hopped in the Granada, he's impressed by the beat I got
His name is "hay-zoos" but his pimp name is "gee-zus"
Slapped a hoe to pieces with his plastic prosthesis
"Nigga don't you know that I'm your daddy?" said he
This is true, plus he schooled me for my mackin' degree
"Never plea, try not to flee, make niggaz pee when you stick around"
This man my momma had found taught me to put it down
I press the gas to the ground to show that I'm a hound
Makin' sho' that get rubber sound is heard throughout the town
Thirty years ago, Jesus could pull a hoe quick
But now he 50 and his belly hangs lower than his dick
Philosophy that he spit stuck in my memory chips
And now he puttin' in a disk of Gladys Knight and the Pips
Then that shit starts to skip, he said, "Somebody musta scratch it"
Put the 40 to his lips and poured the contents down the hatchet
Well since my adolescense, cause of his pimp lessons
smack my woman in the dental just for askin' silly questions
Relationship reduction to either rock the box or suction
Ain't got no close potnahs, socially I cain't function
From the pen he would scribe, on how to survive:
"Don't be Microsoft, be Macintosh with a Hard Drive"
Used to tell me all the time to keep a bitch broke
Did I mention that my momma was his number one hoe?
Clunked the 40 on the flo' and placed his palm on the dash
and wheezed out, "C'mon man, make this motherfucker mash!"
Ain't gon' mash too fast, cause my tags ain't right
Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada last night

Chorus: *sung* (2X)

Oakland do you wanna ride?
I can't hear you! Oakland do you wanna ride tonight?

City lights from far way can makeyou drop yo' jaw
Sparklin' like sequins on a transvestite at Mardi Gras
There's beauty in the cracks of the cement
When I was five I hopped over them wherever we went to prevent
whatever it was that could break my momma's back
Little did I know that it would roll up in a Cadillac
And matta-fact, she couldn't see him like a cataract
And on the track, she went from beautiful to battleaxe
And back at home, she would cry into her pillow
Vomit in the commode, I was six years old
I would crawl onto her lap and we would hug and hold
She asked me what I thought of Jesus when he broke off some bread
I said, "He missin' a arm, and he seem like a pee-pee head"
She said, "Don't cuss," and my teeth to go brush
And get ready for bed, and the toilet to flush
With tears in my momma's eyes, I was her everything
Before she went out on the stroll
She'd tuck me into bed and sing:

You're much too beautiful for words (4X)

I see the red and white lights as the ambulance flies
Reminds me of midnight in a dopefiend's eyes
And my 9-year-old self as paramedics leave
Left to ball my eyes out on a neighbor's sleeve
To make illustrations that are clear and clean
I'll take you two hours back before this scene:
Early in the morning when the sun starts to creep
When the birds start to chirp and crackheads go to sleep
Moms was comin' in I heard her keys go clink
Wearin' nothin' but pumps, bikini, and fake mink
Even though she served, for fifty dollars-a-pop
Hardly had enough for rent after Jesus re-copped
That day the landlady got her rent befo' he got his knot
Slammed momma's head against the front bolt lock
Then the pump wit one arm done harm
Reached back and plowed into her head like a farm
Never saw the act, locked in the back, I was cussin'
Heard the blap blap of tewnty headcrack percussion
and body blows, her body froze from bolo's to the spine
I was hysterically cryin', all she could do was whine
She didn't even have the strength to say, "I love you Boo"
But I said it to her and she knew that I knew
She was dead by the time the ambulance got on the case
But I never will forget the plastic hand stuck in her face
Stop at the intersection to ask Jesus 'bout directions
"S go to Frisco.." (I got very friendly vocal inflections)
Mob a left at MacArthur to continue in flight
Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada last night

Chorus

The rain dropped giant pearls, God was pissin' on the world
or that old man who was snorin' rolled on over and earled
My temperatyre gayge read "cold and blistery"
Spinnin' wheels made each piece of asphault history
This was Jesus debut out the penitentiary
Fifteen years, but it seem like a century
See, he went in the pen for some other murder drama
Twelve years old when I wrote him quote I wanna be a pimp comma
You accidentally killed my mom, no playa hation points
You know how bitches act, shit exclamation points
First it was a set up move, then it was the truth
His letters were the only thing I had as a youth
But his lopsided game, see, was really counterfeit
So my little son Dominic thinks that I'm a dick
Cause I was runnin' 'round like a little baby Jesus
To me women had to be saints, hoes, or skeezers
And I don't think that it's gon' end til we make revolution
But who gon' make the shit if we worship prostitution?
Ain't no women finna die for the same ol' conclusion
Put they life on the line so some other pimp could use 'em
Pulled into a vacant lot, the road to recovery
Pulled out my pistol as we brushed against the shrubbery
Jesus said, "Why the hell you pointin' a gat?"
So I pulled a piece of game I could use out the hat
I said, "This trip is over, we ain't finna ride on
This is for my mental and my momma that I cried on
Microsoft motherfuckers let bygones be bygones
but since I'm Macintosh, I'ma double click your icons"
He struggled for life, then gave up the fight
Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada last night

Chorus

And I still remember momma

You're much too beautiful for words (4X)

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel

In this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

Don't give up
'cos you have friends
don't give up
you're not beaten yet
don't give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
never thought that I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground

Don't give up
you still have us
don't give up
we don't need much of anything
don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
where we belong

Rest your head
you worry too much
it's going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don't give up
please don't give up

'Got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river's flowing
that river's flowing

Moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs

Don't give up
'cause you have friends
don't give up
you're not the only one
don't give up
no reason to be ashamed
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
don't give up
you know it's never been easy
don't give up
'cause I believe there's a place
there's a place where we belong

20. progmom, you sure picked a great song for your tribute choice. Bravo.
I guess I'll go with:

= = = = =
I am just a poor boy and though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my existence for a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies in jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of a railway station, running scared
Layin' low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Lookin' for the places only they would know

Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie
Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie

Asking only workman's wages I come lookin' for a job
But I get no offers
Just a 'come-on' from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonely
I took some comfort there

Now the years are old and by me now
And they're rockin' evenly
I'm older than I once was
And younger than I'll be
That's not unusual
But isn't it strange --
After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same
After changes, we are more or less the same

Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie
Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie

And I'm layin' out my winter clothes
And wishin' I was gone
Goin' home
Where the New York City winters aren't leading me,
Bleeding me.... goin' home

In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut im til he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving,"
But the fighter still remains...

Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie
Lie-la-lie, lie-la-lie-lie lie lie lie

Paul Simon, "The Boxer"

49. Thanks to you also, Trajan, for making a connection with it.
Ordered by my parents at bedtime to turn off the 6-transistor radio when I was a young teenager, I of course refused the order and listened anyway.

Among the very first songs that went into my skull to start me thinking about social consciousness, etc. was S&G's "The Boxer."

I remember thinking to myself, 'It's impossible that anyone could hae written words like that. Impossible." Let alone the beautiful harmonies.

Turned out to be possible after all, and what a HUGE debt I owe these two people.

62. You're right, ifyouknewsushi. I also think it would make a --
-- sensational film.

Eerie, shadowed angle-shots of New York City. An unknown actor, not from the Hollywood studios. A soundtrack by Thomas Newman and of course, Paul Simon.

I would stand in a very long line to get a ticket to that.

64. Paul Simon Is one of the best lyrics writers ever.
He sees words, as we all do I hope, as the internal visualization that is equal to a film or tv program. He writes, produces, and directs Us all to know it isn't the images on the film but the underlying ideas that matter.

Paul Simon is an American treasure. I hope that is secured in the future.

Mike.

21. get yourself cooler, lay yourself low
coincidental murder, with nothing to show
when the judge's constipation go to his head
and his wife's aggravation, you're soon enough dead
it's the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend
it's the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend

gotcha with the cocaine they found with your gun
( alt: shady lookin' loser, you played with my gun )
no smoothy face laywer to getcha undone
say love ain't the same on the south side of town
you could look, but you ain't gonna find it around
it's the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend
it's the same old story, same old story
same old song and dance

fate comes a-knockin', doors start lockin'
your old time connection, change your direction
ain't gonna change it, can't rearrange it
can't stand the pain when it's all the same to you, my friend

when you're low down and dirty, from walkin' the street
with your old hurdy-gurdy, no one to meet
say love ain't the same, on the south side of town
you could look, but you ain't gonna find it around

22.  It Must Be Love Lyrics by RICKIE LEE JONES
It must be love that whispers in my ear
It must be love that we keep trying to hear
Cuz I imagined this kind of vvonderful choice
I imagine you hear the very same voice
When I speak to you
You say 'that's just my imagination'
Oh no, no, no
It must be love
It must be love

Perhaps one girl who was moving in a fine line
Finds one boy in back
That she can always stand behind
And it's you and me
Cuz that's where we want to be
Oh, it must be love,
It must be love

People look through everything they see
Cuz there's so many other things to be
I have seen you walking in the rain
I wanted to know why you were crying
I wanna fix what's wrong...

It must be love the sailor sails for
Must be love that drives a bottle to the bottom of the ocean floor
Because I imagine all kinds of wonderful water
I would have you there wherever I'll go
Way from the seventh sea,
He brings the bottle back to me
Oh, it must be love
Oh, it must be love
People look through evervthing thev see
There's so many other things to be
I have seen you walking in the rain
I want to know whv vou were crying
Baby, let me fix what's wrong...

It must be love that fathoms the moonlight
Must be love that shallovvs
The deepest part of the night
So you can show them vvith vour eye
The things that make them cry,
Because that must be love
It must be love...
And the way you are
Must be love
And the things vou feel
Oh, it must be love,
Oh, it must be love
Must be love

27. i can't do this right now...
since i have too many favorite songs... but since you mentioned joni...

Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, constant in the darkness
Where’s that at?
If you want me I’ll be in the bar

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue tv screen light
I drew a map of canada
Oh canada
And your face sketched on it twice

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I’d still be on my feet

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I’m frightened by the devil
And I’m drawn to those ones that ain’t afraid
I remember that time that you told me, you said
Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine
Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
And you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
Still I’d be on my feet
And still be on my feet

I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said
Color go to him, stay with him if you can
Oh but be prepared to bleed
Oh but you are in my blood you’re my holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
Still I’d be on my feet
I’d still be on my feet

33. from the same record
a song, that when i was a lonely twenty-something, made me long for someone to make me feel this way (i have him now, btw):

All I really really want our love to do
Is to bring out the best in me and in you too
All I really really want our love to do
Is to bring out the best in me and in you
I want to talk to you, I want to shampoo you
I want to renew you again and again
Applause, applause - life is our cause
When I think of your kisses
My mind see-saws

38. Please don't talk about love tonight...
Please don't talk about sweet love.
Please don't talk about being true
and all the trouble we've been through.
Ah please don't talk about all of the plans
we had for fixin' this broken romance.
I want to go where the people dance.
I want some action ... I want to live!
Action ... I got so much to give.
I want to give it. I want to get some too.
Oh I ... Ohhh I ... I love the nightlife
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
Oh I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
Please don't talk about love tonight.
Your sweet talking won't make it right.
Love and lies just bring me down
when you've got women all over town.
You can love them all and when you're through
maybe that'll make huh a man out of you.
I got to go where the people dance.
I want some action ... I want to live!
Action ... I got so much to give.
I want to give it. I want to get some too.
Oh I ... Ohhh I ... I love the nightlife
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
Oh I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
Oh I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
Oh I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.
I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round oh yea.

30. These lyrics are so personal to me that....
every time I hear this song...I tear up....

Stepping Out.....Joe Jackson

"Now the mist across the window hides the lines
But nothing hides the colour of the lights that shine
Electricity so fine look and dry your eyes"

"We so tired of all the darkness in our lives
With no more angry words to say can come alive
Get into a car and drive to the other side"

"Me babe, steppin' out
Into the night, into the light
You babe, steppin' out
Into the night, into the light"

"We are young but getting old before our time
We'll leave the T.V. and the radio behind
Don't you wonder what we'll find steppin' out tonight"

"You can dress in pink and blue just like a child
And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile
We'll be there in just a while if you follow me"

"Me babe, steppin' out
Into the night, into the light
You babe, steppin' out
Into the night, into the light"

35. Misogynistic Lyrics with a fun beat!
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:52 PM by Zuni
ROLLING STONES LYRICS

UNDER MY THUMB

Recorded March 6 - 9, 1966. Released on Aftermath in 1966.
Vocal: Mick Jagger Marimbas: Brian Jones Acoustic & Electric Guitars: Brian Jones & Keith Richards Bass: Bill Wyman Drums: Charlie Watts Percussion: Jack Nitzsche Piano: Brian Jones

UNDER MY THUMB
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around

It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb

Ain't it the truth babe?

Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways

It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright

Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world

It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah

It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright

Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else

It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.

Say it's all...
Say it's all...

Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe.

56. More misogynistic lyrics with a fun beat!
Good Girls Don't
The Knack

She's your adolescent dream
School boy stuff
A sticky sweet romance
And she makes you want to scream
Wishing you could get inside her pants
So you fantasize away
While you're squeezing her
You thought you heard her say

(Chorus)
Good girls don't
Good girls don't, I should be telling you
Good girls don't, but I do

So you call her on the phone
To talk about the teachers that you hate
And she say's she's all alone
And her parents' won't be coming home 'til late
There's a ringing in your brain
'Cuz you coulda swore
You thought you heard her saying

(Chorus)

And it's a teenage sadness
Everyone has got to taste
An in-between age madness
That you know you can't erase
'Til she's sitting on your face (3rd verse)

You're alone with her at last
And you're waitin' 'til you think the time is right
'Cuz you heard she's pretty fast
And you're hopin' that she'll give you some tonight
So you start to make your play
'Cuz you coulda swore you thought you heard her saying

(Chorus)

*repeat 3rd verse

(Chorus)

36. You Wash Your Face In My Sink
You wash your face in my sink
In my sink
You wash your face in my sink
In my sink (sink)
You wash your face in my sink
In my sink (sink)
You wash your face in my sink

Simplicity with synchronicity make a mind meld
Revealed if possible like a walk in a mind field
Sadly, you get up to bat and take a swing thing
Should I
Shouldn't I try?
Too late
You sunk into the sink that I wash my face

You wash your face in my sink
In my sink

Tougher
That's what I'm getting
I'm getting rougher
And you beat me?
Suffer
The attempt of an attempt well tried
Well your side tried
But my side will never be denied
Cause I'm swinging it stinging neglection
With an injection of truth
I've come to untwist the twisted youth
How does it feel now that I've got you all to think?
Yeah, and wash your face in my sink

You wash your face in my sink

Here I go I here I go I here I go again
I have a little place to send a little false friend
Who tried to mess me up with little negative thoughts
A little negative taught
Me to never ever leave my fame into the hands of incompetence
That makes sense
So now I change the tune for the tune allows changes
For you to take a breath while your brain rearranges
What I just spoke into a language called speech
You try to catch it but you just can't reach
For you leave a ring around the basin
When you wash your face in
In my sink

You wash your face in my sink

Now the basin is clean to the gleam of the eye
You constantly lie "when dove's cry"
Out that you are not about what you say
The image of the field you reveal and portray
For never ever will I fall fall to the effects of bandwagonism
So please listen
Up not down
For down is the devil
So roll like a boulder and not like a pebble
You roll like a rock, you roll like a rebel
For this is pure pain
Pick ax and a shovel
Hear no command
Hear just warning
If you wake up in the morning
And wash your face in my sink

You wash your face in my sink

Swing on the grounds of the play ground
The wire to the amp to improve the sound
I mean give me an M-I-C that is clean
And witness the warriors of the dream
For the bigger the orange
Is the bigger the peel
Thieves who steal
Get a wheel for real
A spin to infin or until I give a pardon
Me, I never promised you a rose garden
Or nourishment just punishment for a fink
Who thinks he can wash his face in our sink

You wash your face in my sink

Open up the door
Step across the wet floor
You can make it
You can tape it
This rhyme forevermore
Peer into the drain as the water goes down
Why do you frown is the end of the sound
* * *
But bring back the rhyme
For the rhyme is evaporated
And all of the sucker MCs
To the Jones is saying
They would
They could
They think
But never ever never dare try
To wash their face in my sink

39. Anything You Need But Me -
Nanci Griffith -

Let me say this one more time
Just in case you didn't hear it right
I'll put it in my own words
So I'll know it's understood
You sent me out on a limb
You brought me home... Sent me back again
...Out on that limb one too many times
You should've known I'd learn to fly

You can have anything on earth you need
Anything that breathes you can surely still it's wings
You can have everything on earth you see
Anything on earth you need but me
You can have anything you need but me now
Anything on earth you need but me

I'm shattered as the broken glass
Around the wreck out on the tracks
You had the very heart of me in your hands with honesty
You rolled it up within your sleeve like a beacon
Then you left it out
In the cold and the rain
I've picked it up and brought it home again

It's time to move the lights are green
After all it's love we need
And if it doesn't dance and breathe
Then it doesn't grow it seems
My headlights catch you with my love upon your sleeve
You're standin' still in the middle of this road
It's time to pass you by and go

40. who could have a lyric thread without Muddy Waters
and his 1948 breakout hit record, I can't Be Satisfied?

Well I'm goin' away to leave
Won't be back no more
Goin' back down south, child
Don't you want to go?
Woman I'm troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well baby I just can't be satisfied
And I just can't keep from cryin'

Well I feel like snappin'
Pistol in your face
I'm gonna let some graveyard
Lord be your resting place
Woman I'm troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well baby I can never be satisfied
And I just can't keep from cryin'

Well now all in my sleep
Hear my doorbell ring
Looking for my baby
I couldn't see not a doggone thing
Woman I was troubled, I was all worried in mind
Well honey I could never be satisfied
And I just couldn't keep from cryin'

Well I know my little old baby
She gonna jump and shout
That old train be late man, Lord
And I come walking out
I be troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well honey ain't no way in the world could we be satisfied
And I just can't keep from crying

41. "Sharon" by David Bromberg.
Sharon:

Went to this carnival, three years ago.
No big deal, ferris wheel, the same ole' stuff you know.
There was a man outside with a speech outside a tent,
And he said it to me, and this is how it went.

Folks, you know she walks, she talks,
She crawls on her belly like a reptile.
Same ole' line except one part,
You don't need no money, boy, you pay with your heart

Oh Sharon, what do you do to these men?
You know the same rowdy crowd that was here last night is back again.

Wandered around, and looked around for a seat.
The light went low, and the band played a beat.
Out came this girl, wearing a scarf and sleeves
Did a little dance that made me weak in the knees.
That girl, she danced like her back had no bone.
The band played a tune called the Main Street Moan.

She smiled a smile the whole world could see.
She turned around, and she looked right at me.
I must have jumped six feet in the air,
And when I came down, that girl wasn't there.

Oh Sharon, what do you do to these men?
You know the same rowdy crowd that was here last night is back again.

Out came this guy with a big ole' beard,
And furry arms, man he looked like a bear.
He said that all there is, there's no more to the show
If you wanna breathe right, I think you better go.
I didn't think twice, headed straight for the door,
And when I left, I heard that big bear roar

Oh Sharon, what do you do to these men?
You know the same rowdy crowd that was here last night is back again.

Every time that carnival came, I was right there.
Lord, I learned to stay away from that mean ole' bear.
Just like the man said from his speech at the start,
When that carnival left town it took a piece of my heart.
I still get this funny feeling way down in my bones,
Whenever I hear a band play the Main Street Moan.

Oh Sharon, what do you do to these men?
You know the same rowdy crowd that was here last night is back again.

32-20 Blues
Recorded on 26 November 1936 in San Antonio, Texas.

I sent for my baby, and she don't come
I sent for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

And if she gets unruly, thinks she don't want do
If she gets unruly, and thinks she don't want do
Take my 32-20, and cut her half in two

She got a thirty-eight special, but I believe it's most too light
She got a thirty-eight special, but I believe it's most too light
I got a 32-20, got to make the camps alright

If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gonna shoot my Gatlin' gun
I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gonna shoot my Gatlin' gun
You made me love you, now your man have come

Aw baby, where you stay last night?
Ah baby, where you stay last night?
You got your hair all tangled, and you ain't talkin' right

Got a thirty-eight special, boys, it do very well
Got a thirty-eight special, boys, it do very well
I Got a 32-20 now, and it’s a burnin’ --

If I send for my baby, man and she don’t come
If I send for my baby, man and she don’t come
All the doctors in Wisconsin sure can’t help her none

Hey hey baby, where you stay last night
Hey hey baby, where you stayed last night
You didn’t come home until the sun was shinin’ bright

Ah boys, I just can’t take my rest
Ah boys, I just can’t take my rest
With this 32-20 layin’ up and down my breast

47. Poetry Man
Poetry Man
Phoebe Snow
(P. Snow)

And ooh yeah-yeah-yeah
Ooh yeah

You make me laugh
'Cause your eyes they light the night
They look right through me, la la la la
You bashful boy
You're hiding something sweet
Please give it to me yeah, to me

Oh-oh, talk to me some more
You don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all rhyme, yeah-yeah

And ooh yeah-yeah-yeah
Ooh yeah

You are a genie
And all I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub a lamp, la la la la
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I'm a-a sultry vamp, yeah, a sultry vamp

Woah-oh, talk to me some more
You don't have to go
'Cause you're the Poetry Man
You make things all right, yeah-yeah

And ooh yeah-yeah-yeah
Ooh yeah

Talk to me some more
You don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
And you make things all right

And ooh yeah-yeah-yeah
Ooh yeah

So once again
It's time to say so long
And so recall the law of life, la la la la
You're goin' home now
Oh, home's that place somewhere you go each day
To see your wife, yeah-yeah-yeah, to see your wife

Woah-oh, talk to me some more
You know that you don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all rhyme, yeah

Woah-oh, talk to me some more
You know that you don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all right

48. Great Pink Floyd ....
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

50. Another Peter Gabriel
IN YOUR EYES

Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there’s nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
I will touch this tender wall
Til I know I’m home again
Ooh
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes

Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
Love, I don’t like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there’s nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
Oh it’s in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

I want to stand and stare again
Oh, it’s in your eyes.

51. Dweller on the Threshold - Van Morrison
Dweller on the Threshold

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

I have seen without perceiving
I have been another man
Let me pierce the realm of glamour
So I know just what I am

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

Feel the angel of the present
In the mighty crystal fire
Lite me up and soothe my darkness
Let me travel even higher

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

I’m a dweller on the doorstep
As I cross the burning ground
Let me go down to the water
Watch the great illusion drown

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

I’m gonna turn and face the music
The music of the spirit
Lift me up and soothe my darkness
Where the midnight disappears

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more
I will walk out of the darkness
And I’ll walk into the light
And I’ll sing the song of ages
And the dawn will end the night

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I cross the burning ground
And I’ll go down to the water
Let the great illusion drown

I’m a dweller on the threshold
And I’m waiting at the door
And I’m standing in the darkness
I don’t want to wait no more

I’m a dweller on the threshold
Dweller on the threshold
I’m a dweller on the threshold
I’m a dweller on the threshold

Van Morrison/Hugh Murphy
Taken from the album “Beautiful Vision”

55. LOVE that song. LOVE Van. Another favorite:
Into the Mystic -

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don’t have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don’t have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl...

Van Morrison makes me feel ALIVE. One of my all time faves.

52. Willie Dixon's version of Charlie Patton
Spoonful (Willie Dixon)

It could be a spoonful of diamonds
Could be a spoonful of gold
Just a little spoon of your precious love
Satisfy my soul

Men lied about a little ---
Some of them cried about a little ---
Some of them died about a little spoon---
Everything fightin' about a spoonful
That spoon, that spoon, that ---

It could be a spoonful of coffee
Could be a spoonful of tea
But a little spoon of your precious love
Good enough for me

Men lied about that ---
Some of them cried about that ---
Some of them died about that ---
But everything fightin' about a spoonful
That spoon, that spoon, that ---

It could be a spoonful of water
Saved me from the desert sand
But one spoon of them forty-five
Saved you from another man

Men lied about that ---
Some of them cried about that ---
Some of them died about that ---
Everybody fightin' about a spoonful
That spoon, that spoon, that

66. Spaeking of songwritiers named Stevens.......
....how about a little Yusaf Islam up in this hizzouse....

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

71. Admittedly, I've never heard of Tanya.
But I might have to give her a listen. And looking at the Amazon link, her previous album covers are certainly interesting.

58. World Love - Magnetic Fields
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 12:20 AM by Strawman
Not sure what my all time favorite lyrics are. That's too hard to say, and it depends on my mood, but these have been in my head lately:

When the rhythm calls
the government falls
Here come the cops
From Tokyo to Soweto
viva la musica pop
We are black & white
and we dance all night
down at the hop
and the letters were tall
on the Berlin Wall
viva la musica pop

so if you're feeling low
stuck in some bardo
I, even I know the solution
love, music, wine and revolution
love, love,
love music, wine and revolution

This too shall pass
so raise your glass
to change and chance
and freedom is
the only law shall we dance...

This too shall pass
so raise your glass
to change and chance
and freedom is
the only law shall we dance...

so if you're feeling low
stuck in some bardo
I, even I know the solution
love, music, wine and revolution

60. "We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About"
I'm coming out of my Parrothead closet tonight - I admit it, I've had a lifelong love affair with Jimmy Buffet that continues to this day. I learned to drive in my dad's two-toned blue El Camino (did I really just admit that?) listening to Buffet on the eight-track. Saw him every year for eight years running in my younger days. At least I think I did - it is all kind of hazy, now...

Now I just like to listen to him and learn and laugh. Here's one for all of my favorite DUers who, like me, are among those who didn't fit the mold growing up and probably still don't as adults (that's not necessarily a bad thing!):

========================================

I was supposed to have been a Jesuit priest or a Naval Academy grad
That was the way that my parents perceived me
Those were the plans that they had
But I couldn't fit the part too dumb or too smart
Ain't it funny how we all turned out
I guess we are the people our parents warned us about

You know I coulda worked the rigs when the money was big
Or hopped a freighter south to Trinidad
And when they tried to draft me I earned a college degree
Buyin' time 'til things were not so bad
But then I got a guitar found a job in a bar
Playin' acid rock 'til I was numb
Tell me where are the flashbacks they all warned us would come

Chorus:
We are the people, they couldn't figure out
We are the people our parents warned us about

Hey hey, Gardner McKay
Take us on the Leaky Tiki with you
Clear skies bound for Shanghai
Sailing cross the ocean blue (do do do dooo)
So blue (do do do dooo OOOH)
(do do do dooo)
(do do do dooo OOOH)

Now I got quarters in my loafers tryin' to fight inflation
When it only used to take a cent
Sometimes I wish I was back in my crashpad days
'Fore I knew what cash flow meant

Seems everybody's joggin' or heavy into health shit
Don't tell me that I ought to get rolfed
'Cause I love cajun martinis and playin' afternoon golf

Chorus:
We are the people there isn't any doubt
We are the people they still can't figure out
We are the people who love to sing "Twist and Shout"
SHAKE IT UP BABY

We are the people our parents warned us about (do do do dooo)
Id'n' any doubt (do do do dooo OOOH)
Hey hey hey (do do do dooo)
Gardner McKay (do do do dooo, Gardner McKay)
(do do do dooo)
I wanna sail away today (do do do dooo OOOH)
Isn't any doubt (do do do dooo)
They warned us about (do do do dooo OOOH)
Hey hey hey (do do do dooo)
C'mon now Gardner McKay (do do do dooo OOOH)
I wanna sail away today

63. Just One Victory (todd rudngren) should be the dems new theme
We’ve been waiting so long,
We’ve been waiting for the sun to rise and shine
Shining still to give us the will
Can you hear me, the sound of my voice?
I am here to tell you I have made my choice
I’ve been listening to what’s been going down
There’s just too much talk and gossip going ’round
You may think that I’m a fool, but I know the answer
Words become a tool, anyone can use them
Take the golden rule, as the best example
Eyes that have seen will know what I mean

The time has come to take the bull by the horns
We’ve been so downhearted, we’ve been so forlorn
We get weak and we want to give in
But we still need each other if we want to win

Hold that line, baby hold that line
Get up boys and hit ’em one more time
We may be losing now but we can’t stop trying
So hold that line, baby hold that line

If you don’t know what to do about a world of trouble
You can pull it through if you need to and if
You believe it’s true, it will surely happen
Shining still, to give us the will
Bright as the day, to show us the way
Somehow, someday,
We need just one victory and we’re on our way
Prayin’ for it all day and fightin’ for it all night
Give us just one victory, it will be all right
We may feel about to fall but we go down fighting
You will hear the call if you only listen
Underneath it all we are here together shining still

(Psst: if you haven't signed the letter
Do it now.
Do it for your country.
Do it for John
Here’s the link)

65. Last one from Me - Pink Floyd
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, now,
You know I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I'll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can't hear what you say.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

O.K.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can't hear what you say.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look, but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

67. Another one from Floyd (and one I shouldn't listen to when I'm drinking...
Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour)

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

One of my faves ...

I love playing and singing this song on my acoustic, since it really lends itself well to a dynamic and emotional vocal ....

I posted this one earlier .... THATS how much I like it ...

69. Life's A Bitch
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 03:31 AM by mark414
by Nas ft. AZ

Visualizin the realism of life and actuality
Fuck who's the baddest a person's status depends on salary
And my mentality is, money orientated
I'm destined to live the dream for all my peeps who never made it
cause yeah, we were beginners in the hood as five percenters
But somethin must of got in us cause all of us turned to sinners
Now some, restin in peace and some are sittin in San Quentin
Others such as myself are tryin to carry on tradition
Keepin the schwepervesence street ghetto essence inside us
Cause it provides us with the proper insight to guide us
Even though, we know somehow we all gotta go
but as long as we leavin thievin we'll be leavin with some kind of dough
so, and to that day we expire and turn to vapors
me and my capers-ll be somewhere stackin plenty papers
Keepin it real, packin steel, gettin high
Cause life's a bitch and then you die

Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we get high
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we puff lye
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we get high
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we puff lye

I woke up early on my born day, I'm twenty years of blessing
The essence of adolescent leaves my body now I'm fresh in
My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it
One quarter through life some God-ly like thing created
Got rhymes 365 days annual plus some
Load up the mic and bust one, cuss while I puss from
my skull cause it's pain in my brain vein money maintain
Don't go against the grain simple and plain
When I was young at this I used to do my thing hard
Robbin foreigners take they wallets they jewels and rip they green cards
Dipped to the projects flashin my quick cash
and got my first piece of ass smokin blunts with hash
Now it's all about cash in abundance, niggaz I used to run with
is rich or doin years in the hundreds
I switched my motto -- instead of sayin fuck tomorrow
That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto
Once I stood on the block, loose cracks produce stacks
I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back
Time is Illmatic keep static like wool fabric
Pack a four-matic that crack your whole cabbage

Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we get high
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we puff lye
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we get high
Cause you never know when you're gonna go
Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we puff lye

70. Zappa. Trouble Every Day. From Freak Out. Timeless.
Well I'm about to get sick
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friend
Is anybody's guess

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Wednesday I watched the riot . . .
Seen the cops out on the street
Watched 'em throwin' rocks and stuff
And chokin' in the heat
Listened to reports
About the whisky passin' 'round
Seen the smoke and fire
And the market burnin' down
Watched while everybody
On his street would take a turn
To stomp and smash and bash and crash
And slash and bust and burn

And I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Well, you can cool it,
You can heat it . . .
'Cause, baby, I don't need it . . .
Take your TV tube and eat it
'N all that phony stuff on sports
'N all the unconfirmed reports
You know I watched that rotten box
Until my head begin to hurt
From checkin' out the way
The newsman say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so-and-so

And further they assert
That any show they'll interrupt
To bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They will be the first to tell,
Because the boys they got downtown
Are workin' hard and doin' swell,
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the street,
They say that no one blabs it faster
Their coverage can't be beat

And if another woman driver
Gets machine-gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a brownie
And you'll see it all complete

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Hey, you know something people?
I'm not black
But there's a whole lots a times
I wish I could say I'm not white

Well, I seen the fires burnin'
And the local people turnin'
On the merchants and the shops
Who used to sell their brooms and mops
And every other household item
Watched the mob just turn and bite 'em
And they say it served 'em right
Because a few of them are white,
And it's the same across the nation
Black and white discrimination
Yellin' "You can't understand me!"
'N all that other jazz they hand me
In the papers and TV and
All that mass stupidity
That seems to grow more every day
Each time you hear some nitwit say
He wants to go and do you in
Because the color of your skin
Just don't appeal to him
(No matter if it's black or white)
Because he's out for blood tonight

You know we got to sit around at home
And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many live
To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in the heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There ain't no Great Society
As it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
Just won't amount to nothin' more
Gonna watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor

Blow your harmonica, son!

73. Jethro Tull - "Inside"....
...

All the places I've been make it hard to begin
to enjoy life again on the inside,
but I mean to.
Take a walk around the block
and be glad that I've got me some time
to be in from the outside,
and inside with you.

I'm sitting on the corner feeling glad.
Got no money coming in but I can't be sad.
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had.
And I won't worry about a thing
because we've got it made,
here on the inside, outside so far away.

And we'll laugh and we'll sing
get someone to bring our friends here
for tea in the evening --
Old Jeffrey makes three.
Take a walk in the park,
does the wind in the dark
sound like music to you?
Well I'm thinking it does to me.

Can you cook, can you sew --
well, I don't want to know.
That is not what you need on the inside,
to make the time go.

Counting lambs, counting sheep
we will fall into sleep
and we awake to a new day of living
and loving you so.

75. No favorite really. Right now "Perfect Girl"- Sarah McLachlan
Just because it fits a couple people in my life (and one or two in my past). I was listening to this this morning and it sort of struck me.

Perfect Girl

Am I faithful, am I strong, am I good enough to belong
In your reverie a perfect girl
Your vision of romance is cruel and all along I played the fool
All your expectations bury me

Don't worry you will find the answer if you let it go
Give yourself some time to falter
But don't forgo know that you're loved no matter what
And everything will come around in time

I own my insecurities I try to own my destiny
That I can make or break it if I choose
But you take my words and twist them 'round
Til I'm the one who brings you down
Make me feel like I'm the one to blame for all of this...

Don't worry you will find the answer if you let it go
Give yourself some time to falter
But don't forgo know that you're loved no matter what
And everything will come around in time

You need everybody with you on your side
Know that I am here for you but I hope in time
You'll find yourself alright alone
You'll find yourself with open arms
You'll find yourself you'll find yourself in time

The riot in my heart decides to keep me open and alive
I have to take myself away from you
'Cause I can't compete I can't deny there's nothing that I didn't try
How did I go wrong in loving you

Don't worry you will find the answer if you let it go
Give yourself some time to falter
But don't forgo know that you're loved no matter what
And everything will come around in time

78. One of my favorite Freedy Johnston songs
The Mortician's Daughter

I used to love the mortician's daughter
We drew our hearts on the dusty coffin lids
I grieve tonight over this letter
My tears dissolve an image in the careful ink

Her father stands in the open door
He's waiting for her
There's a storm blowing across the lake
It's late summer
On the broken step is a cardboard box full of wilted flowers
She whispers in my burning ear
It doesn't matter

I used to love the mortician's daughter
We rolled in the warm grass by the boneyard fence
Her skin so white
The first leaves falling
This long forgotten night I am there again

Her father stands in the open door
He's waiting for her
There's a ribbon printed with last respects
Blowing down the gutter
The rain comes in, she drops my hand, she's turning, laughing
And I used to love the mortician's daughter

I used to love the mortician's daughter
We drew our hearts on the dusty coffin lids
There's a lonely dove out on the telephone wire
I turn my head and she flies away
