61. History doesn't matter in Hollywood. Entertainment does.
"Glory" is probably my favorite historical film. I'm sure it's not accurate, but they took what was already a compelling story and made a great film.

here's a substitute pic ... couldn't find a pic of the scene that goes with the following dialog so i included another one from the same movie ...

Trentino: Oh! Now, Chicolini, I want a full detailed report of your investigation.
Chicolini: All right, I tell you. Monday we watch-a Firefly's house, but he no come out. He wasn't home. Tuesday we go to the ball game, but he fool us. He no show up. Wednesday he go to the ball game, and we fool him. We no show up. Thursday was a double-header. Nobody show up. Friday it rained all day. There was no ball game, so we stayed home and we listened to it on-a the radio.

COLE: I need to make a telephone call.
JEFFREY: A telephone call? That's communication with the outside world! Doctor's discretion. Hey, if alla these nuts could just make phone calls, it could spread. Insanity oozing through telephone cables, oozing into the ears of all those poor sane people, infecting them! Whackos everywhere! A plague of madness.

In fact, very few of us here are actually mentally ill. I'm not saying you're not mentally ill, for all I know you're crazy as a loon. But that's not why you're here. Why you're here is because of the system, because of the economy.

There's the TV. It's all right there. Commercials. We are not productive anymore, they don't need us to make things anymore, it's all automated. What are we for then? We're consumers. Okay, buy a lot of stuff, you're a good citizen. But if you don't buy a lot of stuff, you know what? You're mentally ill! That's a fact! If you don't buy things...toilet paper, new cars, computerized blenders, electrically operated sexual devices...

SCREWDRIVERS WITH MINIATURE BUILT-IN RADAR DEVICES, STEREO SYSTEMS WITH BRAIN IMPLANTED HEADPHONES, VOICE- ACTIVATED COMPUTERS, AND...

45. I just watched this movie..
and one thing I don't get..is I thought he was saying "Rosebud" because he never got Rosebud back after his mom sent him away and that he associated Rosebud as being something familiar to home before he was sent away to "become rich". But he had Rosebud in his storage the whole time..because they throw it into the furnace after he dies? :freak:

67. Biggest problem with Rosebud...

The a major part of the movie is the reporters trying to find out what Rosebud is as it was Kanes last word.
The problem is, he dies alone in a room and whispered the word Rosebud, how could anyone have heard his last word?

Yes, I am very proud of the union I am in. And because of the stakes; we are always in some kind of a fight. But I see the good in that because it keeps us practiced.. :)

And YES....Power to the Union Brothers & Sisters!

Unions do help to make us and our economy strong, by making a strong middle-class and a less ultra concentrated upper class. :)
