GMA plays Jackson tape: "I would kill myself, I swear to you"

“He’s in excruciating pain,” the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who met with the singer, told CBS’ “The Early Show” on Monday. “The physical pain is real. There’s also a sense that he feels betrayed by those that he trusted and was betrayed before a jury.”

The singer’s spokeswoman, Raymone K. Bain, told CBS that he had been given muscle relaxants in the past for back spasms and probably got the same treatment Sunday.

Also Monday, ABC’s “Good Morning America” played a tape recording of Michael Jackson that it said was made in 2000 by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, then a spiritual adviser for the star.

In the tape, Jackson says he could not live without children, and if he was told he could “never see another child I would kill myself, I swear to you. Because I have nothing else to live for.” He also referred to the young accuser, a cancer patient, saying: “He was cheated out of his childhood.”

I do have this to say, regardless of the outcome.

If you are a going to put yourself into a position of risk as a wealthy single male adult by having children around, especially in this litiginous society, then at least make sure you don't ever sleep in the same bed with them, innocent intentions or not, and fer cryin' out loud, walk the walk and have some female kids over too, and make sure there are chaperones everywhere.

Oh, and if you really aren't a child molester, then don't leave an opening for Mrs. Lawsuit, Inc. that you could drive a truck through.

Anyway, although he may have an unhealthy "fascination" for young men, and although he's weird, he doesn't fit the profile of a classic "child" molester as I understand it, regardless of how the jury is supposed to be spoon fed the information.

8. Inappropriate relations with little kids.

It is not acceptable behavior for a middle aged man to share a bed with non related young children, male and female. I suspect that people would see it differently if the kids he was sharing his bed with were related to him. Although I'd think it strange if my brother in law wanted to have any of my nephews in bed with him.

If he is not sent to jail then he should be sentenced to court mandated psychotherapy. I am sure he was abused and perhaps much of his childhood abuse, emotional and physical, is manifesting itself in his adult behavior. His abuse, however, should not be accepted as an excuse to vicimize another generation.

the problem is, sharing a bed with a minor is not illegal as far as i understand it. how do you legally pursue the route you suggest?

i just don't see how it can be done realistically in our court system.

If a wealthy, but very generous eccentric in your town wanted to have your young boys overnight, wouldn't you be suspicious?

If even a tenth of what MJ is accused of doing was done by someone with fewer financial resources and less noteriety, that man would be sitting in prison for a long time and would have to register as a sex offendor for the remainder of his life.

4. MJ comes from a large family, when they were poor...

I'm sure they shared a room and even the same bed. This is not new in large poor families.

When I was very young and visited my grand parents, I used to sleep with my uncle in his room, right next to him in his bed. So did all my cousins, male and female. My uncle never touched me or any of us inappropriately. My uncle was a bachelor, never married.

When we visited my cousins, I used to sleep with my boy cousins, three or four in the same bed. Now as adults, we have great memories and joy of those happy times. There was nothing dirty, nothing sexual.

I'm amazed at how Christian this country claims to be, but they throw big stones and add more misery to a person who's down and out. All for money. Those TV people reporting on MJ are pretty Satan-like.

7. I came from a large family (seven kids..four girls

and three boys). I DID share a room but NEVER a bed with ANY of my siblings. Yes, we were poor/lower middle class and qualified for free school lunches.

I think many of MJ's problems can be atributed to the fact that he is a celebrity and as such he probably only hears yes from those he hires (or they don't remain employed for very long). He really needs therapy but who would have the guts to tell their boss, regardless of who it is, "dude you need to see a psychiatrist or psychologist." I know I wouldn't have the nerve to tell my boss and she's not insanely rich like MJ.

The parents share responsbility as well. MJ has a history of "different" relationships with children yet star struck, and often poor/lower middle class parents, continue to allow him access to their children.

1. the idea that your children would know better than to let anything happen because you had been a good parent and discussed these things with them. The knowledge that they would say something if anything did start to happen.

2. the perhaps mistaken belief that the sleeping arrangements were supervised, or at the very least, not one on one.

The truth is, I have no idea if he is dangerous or not. And I'm not sure anyone else does either. My point was that I did sleep with members of my own family and they were not molesters. Is it possible that Jackson is innocent? I think I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. There are many very sick people out there as we both know. I think many of the priests were guilty...but I don't know thise cases specifically and I couldn't tell you who is and who isn't. I'm just saying that just because people sleep in the bed together does not prove they are a molester. That was my only point. To say that it is done with no bad intentions or consequences.

I'm all for peace and love and understanding, and what you're saying is essentially true... but then again, ALL great monsters are tragic; it is this dimension of tragedy and pathos that makes them truly mythic, truly GREAT...
In his case, I'd say he is indeed a mythic monster; whatever forces that formed him remain a mystery, but his intentions seem clear...
Even if it's not something one could say was DONE to him, even if he actually made all the wrong choices, all the way down the line, I'd still say there's an element of chance, of luck, in ANY human life... everything can turn on a dime...
But that doesn't mean he shouldn't be stopped. I think it's pretty obvious he's using his immense wealth and fame to protect himself as he blatantly indulges his predeliction for young boys... and these are kids, and that's a serious crime, against young innocents, and we should STOP him if it's apparent he's doing that.

I see you around a lot on these boards, and we are usually in a zen-like harmony of perfect agreement... even here, though, this is one of those where I just have to tip my hat and say, I guess that's a good thing, people extending a bit of understanding, even in extreme situations such as this...
It's a GOOD instinct, cuz you're right; it's too bad, there's a human trapped in there somewhere...
But if he IS guilty of this stuff, I think they should lock his ass up!... and they should do lil' tv spots, The More You Know, tellin' kids AND THEIR PARENTS not to be stupid and go with a stranger when he tells you he's got candy and ice cream and balloons and a roller coaster and a ferris wheel... and he really does.
As well as 6 or 7 previous allegations of sexual imposition on a minor in his known personal history... those parents oughta have to attend Reality Camp...

I remember when Sony gave him half a BILLION dollars to do some commercials in the mid-90's... one of those staggering stories that makes your flesh crawl, it's just so unbelievably unfair and stupid, just plain stupid to lay all that loot on one cat... I wrote a parody song about it, and in the end MJ gets buried under the ton of money they bring to his house in a dump truck...
I think that's what got him, though. Too much wealth; too much of a good thing.
