Why do people watch slasher movies?

Why? I don't mean psychological thrillers like "Lambs." I mean gore for gore's sake: the slasher films.

Why? I don't understand it. Can anyone give me the crowd's-eye-view on this? TY

3. Jeez, it's prolly, um ,<whispering> sexual

First of all, it's the unthinkable. Stuff you should not EVER witness in your real life, plus stuff that no one should ever think to do to another human being. So in that way, it's purely deviant.

Then, the slasher is sort of out-of-control, not holding back, crossing all kinds of boundaries, wild, unbridled. That part's prolly more overtly sexual.

Knives of course are a very intimate way to kill someone (stabbing, penetrating, there's all kinds of fluids and blood, yer close to your victim, can feel it go in, etc.) are verrry sexual compared to shoot 'em up style (so I guess yer chainsaw would be the vibrator of the slasher realm).

And just plain old fear is akin to sexual excitement.

Or maybe I just have a dirty mind...!
