My dog is very attached to me. Literally.
He is almost 13, just started losing his hearing about a month ago. Right now he is resting his head on my foot. If I get up and go over to the couch, he will follow me, climb up and lie down next to me. If I go into the bathroom he will come in with me and lie down on the rug. Right now I'm not working so I am with him all day- so its not like he's lonely. He's just more dependent than he used to be.

Its sweet 99% of the time, 1% mildly annoying.

1. I hope it is not as hot there as it is here...
I have two dogs breathing in the same room with me, and I want to kill them both!

2. Its in the 80s and I have the air conditioning on, mostly for his benefit.
He's a long haired dog so he has to go awimming to cool off every day. I draw the line at letting him sleep on the bed in the summer- he's too hot and the panting makes me crazy!

3. Belle is five months old & already does that
I blame it on my being home all the time too. (I run a home-based business.) Belle even follows me into the bathroom and sits at my feet until I've finished. When I stand at the sink to wash my hands, she's relaxing on my feet. At the moment she is lying under my desk with her foot lying on top of mine (so she'll be alerted if I get up).

I guess we should just be thankful we are so loved. :)

BTW, my 15-year-old Dalmatian was the same way. It got worse as her health failed -- she relied on me more and more.

4. both of mine are the same way.. yours is probably staying closer because of
his hearing problem...

Teddy and Linus always have the same bark-fest when i come in the house whether i have been gone a weekend or just went out to the shop and back..

i love them so much.. they are getting older too..

5. I feel like the human companion to a handicapped dog
I've been making up signs to communicate with him before he's completely deaf.

7. Give a call to the local SPCA
There are hand signals taught in conjunction with voice commands (it actually makes training much easier and often much quicker). Maybe you could spend a few hours with one of the trainers and he/she could show you several.

Of course, I guess there is no need to learn a standardized set of hand signs. As long as the two of you understand one another, that's really all that matters. :)

8. Be happy he loves you so. My Tippy, who died in March, used to
do the same. More times than once I was in the bathtub for hours and when I came out, he was sitting there waiting for me. Its a perfect love what dogs give. You will miss him when he's gone. Hug him for me. He sounds like a pure spirit.

9. Thank you, he is a very sweet dog
and other people can see how close we are.

He had cancer and was cured of it 5 years ago, so I consider all the time since with him to be pure grace.
