that has already passed its peak, and is sinking into inanity?
Well... it's time to give "Six Feet Under" its eternal rest, I'm afraid. Tonight's episode was very boring... I don't think I've ever been bored with the show previously.
Alan Ball, I think, has lost his touch. Tonight's opening death was not in any way tied into the Fisher story. It was just sort of there to take up time, and to uphold the tradition of opening with a death. And it was utterly predictable.
Aside from that there were some very unwise storyline decisions in tonight's episode. For example, Ruth is my favorite character. Her motherly grace, charm, and pleasantness are a highlight of the show... or at least they used to be. I don't think relegating her to some troubled caretaker for a mindless husband serves the show well. What I would have preferred is more Kathy Bates and Patricia Clarkson. Let Ruth have some fun for a change.
And the who's afraid of Billy angle has become very tiresome. It's been DONE already, Mr. Ball, and it wasn't all that interesting the first time around. I no longer care. Don't you have anything new?
Brenda's mom and Olivier... what was up with that? They're supposed to be funny at least part of the time. Why is everybody being turned into mopey bores? Yes... allow her to be concerned about her daughter... but give her a clever line or two.. not "I'm upset because I couldn't help her." Well, duh.
I could go on... I was bored. I don't think I'll be watching much of this final season.
Note: edited to correct the producer's name.
