Anyone else have a phobia so strong that you can't bear to look at pics
...of the object of your phobia?

I just almost started hyperventilating over a picture someone posted. :scared:

30. My old roommate used to always get me to kill spiders for her
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 10:33 AM by primate1
Every couple of days she'd knock on my door and whimper, "Jonathan, there's a spider in the kitchen" or wherever the spider happened to be. It was hilarious, because it would always be little tiny harmless looking spiders.

hates bridges that don't have visible means of support from the car. She HATES the Marquette interchange in Milwaukee. Don't go there if you hate bridges...trust me.

I won't post the picture, but here is the url (with a space before the last backslash) so it doesn't post for those phobic) if you want to see what it will look like after construction. Doesn't give it justice until you are on it.

and that they have enormous utility given where they are on the food chain and all that. It's just that the sight of one completely fucks me up.

35. Yep, I can't even stand to hear the word, type it, and a photo
would just send me around the bend. I'm not scared of too many things but there is one member of the animal kingdom I refuse to even pretend exists.

When I was in high school Biology I told my teacher that if he would make me deal with this particular chapter in the book I promised not to freak out in his classroom (projectile vomiting was certainly a possibility, screams, fainting definitely - and I have never fainted). Why he didn't try to help me "get over" (ain't gonna happen) I will never know. To his credit I became his gofer anytime we had anything to do with the "too scary to name" things he would send me on errands, photocopying, etc. It helped he was the basketball coach and always had a hundred things to do and that I was a really good student for the rest of the class.

My kids and family know not to say the word in front of me even though the kids and grandkids are not afraid of them. Took me a long time to hug one of the grandkids when I found out she had actually held one about six months before. And I LOVE that kid.

Stupid? Incredibly so. Am I going to change? Nope. Everybody has something, I'm just really wacky about my phobia.

37. I can't deal with movies and images relating to water
Like Jaws or Open Water or anything that features people in a watery situation. When they show people struggling around underwater, I just curl up in a fetal position and twitch. :scared: Just thinking about it right now makes my toes curl.
