Body Part Falls From Plane, Lands In Yard
"NEW YORK -- Police say a body or body part apparently fell from the wheel well of a plane coming in for a landing on Tuesday at John F. Kennedy Airport and landed in a suburban back yard, authorities said.

It landed on the roof of a detached garage at a home on Long Island.
More remains were found on a South African Airways flight after it landed at Kennedy, said Tony Ciavolella, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Police suspect the remains were that of a male stowaway, the spokesman said. He would not confirm that the incidents at the airport and Long Island were related, saying, "It's still under investigation."

5. Well
They say it was a man, so maybe the part that fell gave them that information.

4. Happens all the time.
The rest of him could be anywhere! Either at departure, before they closed the wheel wells, or on the landing pattern after they opened them.

Likely he miscalculated where to be in the wheel well when the gear was retracted, and the hydraulics dismembered him at takeoff.

8. All the time?
Well, maybe this one made the news because the part fell on a garage.

22. Not 100% of the time.
Depends on the routing and the barometric pressure.

Healthy adults can survive at high altitude for a period of time.

I'm envisioning sitting out back enjoying a good book and having a body part land on the deck!

16. I have always had a phobia about being killed by debris from a plane.
It went away for awhile but watching Donnie Darko made it come back. I still tense up when I hear a plane flying overhead.
