I have a new, bare-bones blog site up. I'm still working on the back-end, which is why it hasn't launched officially yet. However, I'm offering free blog space to "serious" bloggers -- meaning, the only real requirement is that your posts be thoughtful, and relate to one or more "issues" -- whether it's political ranting, or just The Human Condition. All I ask is that it be an insightful, "thinking" person's blog.
In other words, no 13-year-olds whining about how Studly Steve the Football Captain ignored them in the hall between classes today. That's the sort of thing that drove me off one "community" blog site -- I want to "commune" with adults who possess some grey matter, thankyouverymuch. (It also means there will be a preponderance of left-wing bloggers. LOL)
As for "communing," there are some extras coming, such as a blog-community message board (me compete with DU? I'm not stupid -- LOL -- the message board is for my site's bloggers), as well as (drumroll, please!) a constantly-live feed of news headlines from numerous different outlets, and a few other resources to make blogging for news junkies as fast and easy as possible.
Speaking of "grey matter," what I'm offering is free installation of Greymatter (the blogging software), and free space. No, I haven't worked out the details of how much space you'll get (for text and images), but if you (or anyone) would like to know more, PM me, and we can work out the details.
The reason I'm doing this is... well, frankly, I hate blogspot.com. LOL No, seriously, I really hope to attract some great minds, and some great writing, to one place.
The catch? There is none. I must place (fairly nonobtrusive) ads on the site to cover the hosting costs (I'm unemployed and broke, remember), but we're talking about, e.g., small plugs for Al Franken's book, etc.
Obviously, this is a bit premature for a "launch" announcement, but since you brought it up, I wanted to make the offer, before you get swept up in the annoying world of blogspot and its ilk.
So, if anyone's interested, give a shout.
P.S. Yes, I keep my own blog on Salon.com, just to suck up the incredible traffic that comes to any site with a salon.com address -- but I'm starting to mirror my blog to my own blog site... which, incidentally, is www.GlobalBlogs.com.
