Jeez, now that I think abt it, I have well over 7,000 invested in bikes and gear. Oh well, great investment.

3. 1995 Trek 930 FS--Rock Shocks--8 speed--Shimano HG--Grip Shift

It has been great for unpaved roads and ATV tracks in Pennsylvania. It is overkill for rail trails, although I hear there is a new segment of the Kokosing trail in Ohio where even a hybrid with fat tires is not springy enough.

5. I ride mostly on trails and the road

on my 2003 Trek 7300 hybrid. I'm thinking about buying a road bike, so give me a little time and I think I can catch up to your level of addiction and spending. ;-)

I live on the edge of The Ozarks, Mark Twain Nat. Forest, I go somewhere different every weekend. My local trails are top notch as well, all accessible by rail trail.

12. I rode the Katy Trail

this summer. Did 250-odd miles in four days. Have you ever road there?

BTW, you are very lucky to have so many choices. I am somewhat limited and tend to get bored easily, so I'll drive a few hours if I have the time just to shake it up a bit.

13. No, I haven't done the Katy Trail

I'm abt 4 hours west of St. Louis (the other side of the forest)

The closest I've been is the Berryman Trail near Potosi, Mo.

16. I rode some of the Katy Trail in 2001

It was quite flooded in June, so I was turned back on all of my rides out of Rocheport. The next day I drove down to Marthasville and rode there. The Katy is quite a beautiful trail, especially considering that it is not in the mountains (like my favorite trail, the Youghiogheney in Ohiopyle, Pa.). There were indigo buntings and cardinals everywhere.

A late-70's Schwinn Le Tour with knobby cyclo-cross tyres. (yep, 27" knobbies. It's my "Winter Bike")
A Huffy middleweight with fenders for popping down to the Pizza King..

An "in-progress" SWB 'bent that I'm building out of bits and pieces, and a few misc. bikes for "parts donors" for these Frankenbike projects...

And I buy all of them LOTS of "presents"....:-)

No mountain bikes yet, they have a lot of paved trails near here, and the un-paved trails are restricted.

I'm one of those that loves the maintenance as much as the riding, I love to tinker.

10. An old rigid frame Canondale...

From the mid 90s. I bought is used from my sister in 1999.

This used to be my S.O.'s bike until a couple months ago, while I rode a dept store clunker that was given to us last year by a fellow who didn't want it. But my S.O. bought a new Trek back in August, so now I get to ride the Canondale. :D

It's much more fun than the dept store bike, that's for sure! I might actually try to do some off-road riding for once. Until now, we've been sticking to dirt roads for the most part.

11. I found an old

Peugot UO-8 road bike at a local bike dealer. It was in excellent condition and I talked him down to 200.00 for it. I had a Specialized Hardrock trail bike but someone swiped it. I found a Mongoose Professional trail bike that had all the right components and that is what I ride most now. I only paid 250 for it new, and although I was a little leary I have been most pleased with it. Best thing is, I won't be as depressed if someone swipes that one.

18. I heard of the greatest anti-theft device a couple of years ago...

Spice Girls stickers. Some columnist raved about them. Apparently, just making an expensive bike butt-ugly works better than a lock.

I checked it out the last time I was in NYC. I saw a couple of higher-end bikes on the street unlocked, but covered in friction tape and stickers. Seemed to work.

Around here, if it doesn't have shocks, it don't get a second look. Might get stomped on, but it doesn't get a second look....
