Cinderella Man is very much worth watching.
http://www.cinderellamanmovie.com/index.php

As it's a Ron Howard movie, naturally the sentiment is laid on a bit thick, but as a real-life story it rocks. Russell Crowe was pretty damned believable as boxer James Braddock ( http://www.jamesjbraddock.com ), and Renee Zellweger played the long-suffering wife (ala Rocky's Adrian) very well. Also, Craig Bierko played one scary championship contender (Max Baer)-- although I'm confident I could kick his ass in my sleep, I doubt that many others could make that claim.

There were plenty of lively boxing scenes, with some fairly original FX shots mixed in. The Great Depression was depicted ultra-realistically, and it made me once again curse George *Bush for bringing it all down on us yet again. My only hope is a Cinderella Man emerges for us, because we all need a real hero to help us through these crazy times.

This is the right movie at the right time. Go see it.

7. We're about to LIVE a new depression... Ron Howard can eat dirt.

I wish more people would read up on the truth about * and Reagan and the first oil crisis and how the new one is nigh; nevermind the offshoring keeping people off of work. Reagan, et al, are evil; no other word describes them.

I just got back from seeing it and I cried and/or sat on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. Loved it.

12. I saw it last night.
Ron Howard certainly knows how to push the right buttons. Crowe and Giammatti were excellent. The 2 1/2 hour running time was excessive, though (at least that's what my bladder told me).

13. Remember the old man with white hair and glasses that Jimmy kissed on top
of his head after he won the championship? That was Angelo Dundee. Nice touch.

14. Loved it!
saw it last Saturday, and both Mr. Lavenderdiva and myself thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr. Lavenderdiva did some digging and found out that Rosemarie DeWitt, the actress who played Sara Wilson, whose husband leaves her and dies in the film, is actually James Braddock's granddaughter! Nice bit of casting...

15. Glad to hear this review. The weekend box office was less than stellar.
But I'm going to see it this weekend as I've been planning to do. Can't wait, quite frankly.

For the Crowe-bashers: Yes, he's an ass and a jerk, yes he just got arrested for assault; he is still one of the finest actors alive, and I'll watch him as long as he's working.
