Alright, why are cusswords bad?

I'm not asking why certain words are bad, and I'm not asking why we shouldn't curse in front of someone who is offended. I mean, why are there words that offend people even if not directed at them?

I just don't choose to use them in large amounts and if someone is offended I would try and respect that in them.
