The most beautiful, inspiring movie I think I've ever seen.

1. I'll go see it, because I've developed a certain fascination

with how vapid and uncreatively pedestrian Ron Howard is. I hate his films, but I am compelled to see them. It's like a sore tooth that you can't stop touching.

And I have this little bit of optimism that "well, maybe this time he'll do it well". Never happens, but that little bit of hope is always there...

And this one looks positively awful.

But, others are giving it good reviews, so perhaps this is the one...

9. Nah, all I know is Siskel and Ebert (and don't know the new guy's name)

and that guy with all the hair (who I don't really trust), and Leonard Maltin (who I sometimes trust, sometimes think is a total weenie wanker).

But, for the most part, I never read film reviews, nor watch them.

Never really cared much about what reviewers think, except for Siskel and Ebert (esp. Siskel), but I can find out what Siskel and the new guy think by looking at the advert for the film - if it says "two thumbs up", then I trust it will be a good movie. That's all I need - the thumbs. I don't really care about the words of their review - all I care about is whether they liked it.

the under 40 crowd at how devistating the depression really was?

It moved me because my great grand parents lost everything during the depression. I thought the representation was intense. But I guess I'm just a "pedestrian" movie goer.

The depiction of what life was like during the depression - from what I've read - is authentic. I went to school with Braddock's daughter. My Dad was a friend of his. My Dad joined the CCC to feed us.
Don't let others define you.

it was the only work he could find and it kept him and his mother from starving. This movie really hit a nerve with me.

8. It looks like a great movie

I remember reading the Jim Braddock story years ago. Great story, all Hollywood has to do is tell the story and not screw it too much. I'm going to see the movie next week.
