Does the Lounge make you stupid?

The thread about the five essential history books got me to thinking that I should do some serious reading again. But then I thought, who am I kidding? Hanging out in the Lounge for the last 7 months has reduced my attention span to that of a hummingbird. Does anyone else feel this way?

10. To be honest..

I've dropped in and out of here for a few months now and I see how it can take over your life if you let it and reduce your attention span at bit :D . While I enjoy coming here, I hope I never get to the point where it becomes my main source of entertainment and/or socialization. There is just so many other things to do out there that would be easy to put aside.

Read decent, clever enough stuff (books and sexy magazines) 1/2 of the time, experience real life (as close as you can manage to get) 25% of the time, enjoy the lounge 10% of the time, and attend to personal and household maintenance duties the remaining 15% of the time.

Reduce other percentages as real life increasingly intrudes. Adjust all percentages as life permits. Aim for increased enjoyment.

I'm a new person here, and I have been following many of the threads in the Lounge over the last couple of weeks. I've been in awe of the amazing repartee that I see here. If anything, I'm hoping that it will sharpen me up a bit! Worst case, I may not be able to contribute to the humor much, but I can certainly enjoy it. Best case, I'll be able to keep up with all of you some day...

However, I do understand your point of not getting anything else accomplished because the Lounge is very addictive. I've informed my husband that we're going to get a second laptop so that I can be on DU as long as I want.
