most under-appreciated fruits

I'm going to go with pineapple. Especially when it's chopped up & fresh in the grocery store. I admit the piney exterior can be a deterrent though.

12. eeek! I'm sorry, I meant UNDER-appreciated but got lazy.

I actually made quinoa for a class one time because it was a big staple for the Inca whom I was doing a presentation on. I was a little light on facts so I thought I would 'wow' them with food. What I made was called 'warballs'--basically quinoa, oil, & sugar. I didn't tell the people what it was or the name until they had already eaten it of course.

8. anyone ever have fruit from the Paw-paw tree?

I ask because I just ordered two bare-root trees. They claim they are creamy inside with the taste of vanilla and banana.

BTW I love pineapple - it is great broiled with a little brown sugar (and sometimes a little butter added just before it's done)

Tho I think they were deceptive about the flavor. To me they're more like Banana with notes of guava and passion-fruit. No hint of vanilla.

Couple years ago I drove from Southeast Kansas to central Ohio to attend a paw-paw festival.

When they fruit; try it both plain, and use it for the banana in a moist banana cake recipe.

9. Fresh picked strawberries

Directly from the plant to my mouth in a few seconds. They're so sweet they should be illegal.

I can't eat those monster grocery store strawberries any more.. They don't have any taste.

13. We used to have them in our garden

But the critters used to snag them before we did. So we have to go to the berry farm down the road to get the good ones. :9 Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries... I like to bake with them or eat them plain, whatever.

14. The birds/neighborhood kids/squirrels/slugs get about 10%

and my dogs snag one or two every day. Other than that, they're all mine.. and I have a bumper crop this year from 3-year established plants. It's hard to keep up with them and eat them all. :P
