It's embarassing, if you look at the sordid history of much of this game and its players, that Rose is still barred because "he bet on baseball." To imagine baseball dancing atop a chair in horror, skirts around its knees, wailing "But he BET on the game! He BET! Oh the HORROR!"

Get a grip, baseball fans, and do some research; there are a lot of hall of famers who could've been jailed for other far more heinous crimes, yet still have made the cut. Rose has spent the better part of 2 decades in exile; he's paid his debt, and is due.

For Major League Baseball to ban Pete from working in baseball because he apparently bet on baseball is understandable but to ban him from making ceremonial appearances at baseball games and ineligible for the Hall of Fame I feel is just wrong. Based on his accomplishments as a player either he should be in the Hall of Fame or the Hall of Fame has no credibility.

13. Mel Famey.

He was a pitcher for the Brewers back in the '70's. He was DEFINITELY Hall of Fame material. But he was an alcoholic and it ruined his career. It got so bad that he was actually taking a can of beer out onto the field with him. He'd take a swig and then stick the can in his back pocket and pitch. One game, late in his last season, he was totally shitfaced, walking batter after batter until the manager finally yanked him. As he was walking off the field, the play-by-play guy asked his color man, "What's that sticking out of his back pocket?" The color man answered "That's the beer that made Mel Famey walk us!"
