The fact is that the vast majority of cases involved post-pubescent boys, and thus it is not pedophilia but ephibophilia. The incidence of pedophilia among the Catholic clergy is pretty much exactly that among other denominations.

This is why some claim that it's a gay issue - but guess what, I've never raped a 15 year-old boy. In fact (shock horror) I've never had sex with anybody below the legal age of consent.

To my mind, a good start would be for the Pope to depose a significant portion of the N. American Episcopate. A very large number have been tainted with this scandal, and still seem to be doing little about it.

there was an extreme right wing lady defending her indefnesible position about gay marriage etc. "I hate the sin, but not the sinner" and so much other horsecrap (including that her deceased brother was gay and she loved him).

She continuously brought up pedophilia in her arguments against gay marriage. I am not sure of the connection - even when it was pointed out to her that most pedophiles are actually hetero when not with children.

many of the fundies won't defend the Old Testament, saying it has too many contradictions, and that they only go by the New Testament. So, I guess the story is, if they need some obscure phrase to justify their complete prejudices and intolerances, it's all right for them to dig through the old books to find something to justify it. Only they don't reference it for any other reason, and they can ignore anything that doesn't agree with their point of view. Nice.

I know, I know, This has been gone over so many times that we're all getting whiplash from their total and complete lack of constancy, and it's one thing to use that against them in an argument, but then they can't even show a normal amount of logic in their point of view on anything--it's all at an emotional level, and nothing further.

I've tried arguing points with my best friend, but the decibel level increases each and every time, and I end up getting out of the conversation instead of wasting my time.

11. My Thoughts On Homosexuality

Being gay is not a biological abnormality, nor is it a perversion of sexual feelings. Being gay is not a sexual matter, but rather a matter of the heart. People know they are gay before they've even had homosexual sex. The biological abnormality argument against homosexuality forces the teleological view of sex to be accepted. This means that ALL sexual relations that occur for any reason other than procreation are wrong. Masturbation? WRONG if you think the purpose of sex is procreation. Oral sex? WRONG AGAIN.

Religiously I think homosexuality is just as much a sin as EVERY OTHER sin. Engage in premartial sex? You're in the same boat as homosexuals...I'm not trying to convict anyone and say oh you shouldn't have premarital sex. Hell, many would be convicted. My point is that if you are so utterly offended by homosexuality and yet ignore millions of your own sins and transgressions, then that it not walking in the path of Christ. I don't mind homosexuality, I don't think it's any great blight...I think it's love. And if you'd like to love someone, please do.
