while practicing tonight on a lake I hit 4 or 5 eskimo rolls in my kayak. My form was sloppy, my paddle blade hit bottom (showing I'm pulling it too deep into the water) but I rolled up nonetheless! :)

I'm telling y'all because I promised one DUer I was gonna be a total pain in the ass when I got my roll bomb-proofed. So this is what we call foreshadowing people--get ready for some more of it, it's coming soon!

what's under the water terrifies me. I'd be afraid I would roll and smack my head on a rock or tree under the water. :scared:

Congrats to you! I am envious. I would really like to kayak.

I am a bitch in a canoe, though. My buds always put me in the back of the canoe, with all the noobs in my canoe, because I can steer better than anyone else. :D

2. As for what's under the water,

well, that's what the helmet is for! Mine has a couple of good grooves in the back of it. The first time you hit a rock you start thinking I LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEE my helmet.

Do you know what canoeists say about their relationship to kayakers? Canoe = one half the paddle, twice the paddler! :D

I might give kayaking a try. I've got a pool at my parents, and I can borrow a kayak from a friend. If I could get comfortable with the concept of boating UNDER the water, on the bottom side of the surface, I might like it. :D

7. Don't be to sure about fitting, I'm 6'4" and pretty stiff,

I'd say a Wave Sport ezg 60 would be plenty roomy. Open Canoes can do almost anything a kayak can, but if your ankles are stiff, they are extremely uncomfortable. Don't even think about a C-1 (they look like a kayak, but you kneel instead of sit on your butt, and again, there's the one bladed paddle. A lot of the real hot shots like to paddle C-1.

Oh yes, PSA time, before ever trying whitewater, I can't reccomend taking a class highly enough. YOu meet people, they're fun, and you learn safely! :)
