Other Kids films as good as Willie Wonka?

Looking for some suggestions for good kids movies...any ideas?

but I still love "Mary Poppins" and another good one would be the "Pippi Longstocking" films.

How could I forget the Miyazaki films?! Yes, those are excellent. Engaging, moving, and charming for kids and adults. Add "My Neighbor Totoro" to that list.

2. Harry Potter, Disney movies like Toy Story

3. Funny you mention that.....

My daughter who will be 2 years old next month, is currently obsessed with that movie (Willy Wonka that is). I'm just amazed because even though it's colorful, it is all live action. She sits there enthralled by it every time she watches it.

Some great kids films are a little dark, wouldn't want to recommend them for really little kids.

5. The Little Mermaid

I thought it was the best Disney film, until "Monsters, Inc." also an excellent one. Topped only by "Finding Nemo," which comes out on Tuesday.

17. Another vote for Christmas Story, plus...

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. One of my all-time favorite movies, and just about the only musical in which I actually enjoy the music! But the stop-motion animation is just jaw-dropping, especially when you know how it is done...one...frame...at...a...time. It's brilliant in every way.

is a good kids movie and adults can watch it without it destroying their brain.

One of those sixties kids movies that is utterly terrifying if you actually think about it, but little kids really like it.

Great film, plus it gives you the opportunity to teach your children the evils of McCarthyism!

Other favorites of ours include October Sky, The Amazing Panda Adventure, and Alaska.

26. Willie Wonka is f***ing creepy

I saw if the first time last year - I remember some woman slaving away for four old f***s in bed (CREE - PY) - then when her boy wins some kind of contest, he doesn't take his hard working mom - he takes one of those lame f***s who all of the sudden mysteriously is no longer bedridden, but almost as spry as the f***ing kid. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

used to love "Milo and Otis" and "The Dark Crystal". "The Dark Crystal" may be to scary for very young children. There are these buzzard looking creatures in it called "Skecksies"(sp), my daughter used to unknkowingly call them "sexies".

33. The 1994 version of Black Beauty

is very good, although sad. But I don't think it's bad for kids to deal with emotionsl.

At the Portland Film Festival two years ago, I saw a German film called Emil and the Detectives. It's an updated version of a 1920s children classic (taking place in a multiracial Berlin with modern social problems), and it's wonderful. Unfortunately, it's in German with subtitles, so it probably won't ever be popular in the U.S.

Whale Rider and Bend it Like Beckham. I came out of Whale Rider, turned to my husband, and said, "I wish we had a daughter just so I could take her to see that movie."

Jim Henson movie that stars a very young Jennifer Connelly, plus David Bowie! The Neverending Story is good too. How about Yellow Submarine?
