Teen Trying to Kill Snake Shoots Himself
PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. — A snake in the grass is to blame for a teenager shooting himself in the leg, police said. A 16-year-old boy was mowing his lawn Tuesday when he saw a snake slithering toward his dogs, which were chained in the front yard, police said.

Worried about the canines, the boy ran inside and grabbed a .22-caliber pistol, said Port Wentworth police Sgt. Loren Scholes.

The boy came back outside and when he saw the snake at his feet, he hastily aimed and fired. The bullet entered his right calf and exited near his heel, Scholes said.

The boy was taken to an area hospital. Police said the wound was not life-threatening.

Scholes said he did not know what kind of snake it was, but "from what he described, it sounded as big as a freight train."

3. I shot a copperhead with a commando revolver once
"Git a gun and shoot the snake" being a common southern attitude. But I had a better excuse than just that. My indended (married for 40 years now) was enrolled in herpetology and wanted that snake for her collection. The firearm I had was a commando pistol, somebody's WWII souvenir. Not very accurate. Nevertheless I hit the snake -- didn't kill it. Knocked it out. My darlin' companion got it into a heavy canvas snake bag, but by the time she got it back to the lab, it was awake.

She put the bag, snake and all, in the freezer. The copperhead froze in striking position.

After she got it out, doing something else before preserving it, she left the frozen snake on a lab bench. The class bully came by, and had to go home to change his underwear.

Even a dead snake is scary?

If the idiot had shot his balls off, would he be eligible for a Darwin Award on the basis that he'd never reproduce?

5. Did he sleep through his gun safety class?
Well, now he can tell others what it feels like...who knows, the skill of shooting oneself in the foot may come in handy if they reinstall the draft...
