I am DONE with Overstock.com!!!
I ordered an ottoman from them...hadn't heard anything, so I went online to track my order. They canceled it.

I talked to one of their representatives who said it was a mistake, and she placed my order again. A day later, it was canceled.

So, I contact them again and they say that despite what it says on the website, the item is out of stock. Ok, fine.

Now, I go to my credit card statement online and notice I was charged *THREE* times for the item. Now, I realize that refunds take a while to process, BUT I only ordered it twice.

So, I called them, and they told me I'm wrong, that I was not charged three times. I said I had it right in front of me. They said it was my problem, to call the bank. Mind you that BOTH the customer svc. rep. AND the supervisor said this to me.

I told them that if one of my employees ever told a customer flat out that they are wrong/lying, they would be in BIG trouble. And I said that I would make sure my office never ordered from them again. They offered no apologies for the inconvenience. The bitch just said "Is that all?"

Does anyone else notice that companies are getting cocky with their customers lately? There's no more "the customer comes first" or "the customer is always right." They want to bleed us dry and get away with murder.

Anyone have a similar experience with Overstock or another online vendor?

1. I hate their commercials for "the big O"
I haven't had any bad experiences with them, but I avoid them because of the smarminess of that ad.

Not TOO obvious, is it? :eyes:

I have never shopped there because I can't stand that commercial.

The only time I've been screwed from shopping online is on ebay.

5. You're expecting personalized service from an online bulk store?
Please.

If you want personalized service, then buy from a local store at which you can interface with a human being rather than a voice on the phone.

6. I think they're a big GOP contributor, too.
They were sending free copies of the "Farenhype 9/11" DVD overseas to our troops. I kicked them to the curb after that.

14. There is debate on that. BuyBlue says they are 93% Democrat.
But they were advertising on Rush Limbaugh's home page and claiming they weren't.

" - Overstock.com - banner ads are running again, apparently through an affiliate. Overstock maintains it does not advertise on Limbaugh. TBTM action: Send them letters letting them know that while their banners are on Limbaugh's site, they're still supporting him - regardless of who purchased the ad. "

http://www.takebackthemedia.com/rushbusted.html

"Overstock.com currently has a 93% BuyBlue rating due to political contributions for the 2003-2004 election cycle. Overstock.com's executives made a few sizeable donations, the vast majority of them going to Democratic politicians. Overstock.com does not have a political action committee."

Total Spent: $27,000.00

92.59% to Democratic Party candidates
7.41% to Republican Party candidates
0% to Other candidates

23. Yeah, I know, that turned me off to them, too.
On the other hand, maybe they had a ton of tapes and no one wanted them, so they figured advertising on conservative news shows (sorry for the redundancy and the oxymoron) they might unload a few.

Still pissed me off. I was suprised to find their political contributions went to Dems.

7. I had an equally terrible experience with Comcast
Our digital cable has never worked well because apparently the box going into our condo building doesn't have enough capacity for all twelve units in our building. So every time we call because our reception sucks, they make us wait around all day for them, then they come out and put our cable "first in line" so it gets the best reception. Then they tell us we need a higher capacity box for the building and that they will put in a work order for one (apparently customers cannot order it). Then two months later, when someone else calls to complain, the cables get switched around again.

So starting about two months ago, I started calling a woman at the corporate office as well as emailing and calling customer service. I tell them I don't want another freaking service call because I KNOW what the problem is. I'm not wasting another fucking vacation day for them to come out and do the same damn thing. I want them to come out and install a new box for the building, which I don't need to be there for. They have given me nothing but runaround. Of course they are the only cable provider in our area and we can't have a sat dish (for several reasons) so if we don't use Comcast we're fucked. And Comcast treats us accordingly. I fucking hate them sooooooo much.

8. The Big Oh No
I bought one thing from them, a showerhead. It was a piece of crap.

When they were handing out the anti-MM movie to the "our troops" right before the election, I sent an e-mail off to them about it. I got back a very snotty reply, not once but twice.

I e-mailed them back and told them I would never buy anything from them again. The guy basically said so what-FU.

I got the big Oh all right...the big Oh No!

Screw them.

9. Not with them, but someone else.
About 4 years ago, someone stole my credit card number, and made about 9 purchases by phone. I contacted my company, and they said first contact the vendor, and then call back if I didn't get satisfaction.

8 of the 9 removed the charges with no problem, but the 9th who sold some cutlery, was downright abusive. When I pointed out that the merchandise was shipped to another city, other than where I lived, they said thats not proof and kept arguing. I finlly told them to "fuck off" and called my card company back. They removed the charges.

11. horrible time with Overstock!
My husband ordered some software from them, they botched the delivery and then once we got it, it was old software loaded into new packaging.. and it took us almost two weeks to get a return authorization. They did give us $10 toward a next purchase, but no way was I going to buy anything from them. It was much more frustrating and involved than I make it sound, but Overstock is not a professional operation at all...

Now, www.bluefly.com (mostly clothes, some housewares) is very good about shipping, notifications and returns. Very very good service (and was initially backed by George Soros, I think).

20. I hadn't heard of BlueFly before. I'll keep it in mind.
I usually shop at www.sierratradingpost.com which started out as outdoor/sporting goods overstocks but has expanded nicely. Great prices and selection. Stuff goes fast, though.

when I have credit card problems. I just go straight to the credit card company. They have always taken care of it.

17. I happen to LOVE Overstock!
I've purchased a lot from them over the years - and have since soon after they opened. DVDs, furniture, bedding, books, etc etc...

Everything has been of excellent quality, and the one time I had something break and need to be returned (a big bookshelf stereo system) they had me just cut the cord off and return that rather than pay huge shipping fees.

I was chapped about the FarenHYPE thing - but I used that as an excuse to by 4 copies of MM's movie, and lots of anti-bush books from them instead. ;)
