Imagine if people could replicate themselves in life like sockpuppets.
You could be everywhere within seconds, spitting vitriol in one place while making love in another. You could pretend to like someone while you insult them with impunity through your clone, and they would be none the wiser. What a world that would be.

2. Well, perhaps with a little magic they could.
Mine are always running away from home... right after I put them in the dryer. I guess they don't like it in there.

4. I've often thought it would be efficient
Quality time with each kid, several great jobs, able to volunteer at a moment's notice, two or three of you to clean the house.

As long as they all couldn't get pregnant, it'd be great.

5. Sounds good to me...
One to read good books, one to hang out with my daughter more, more time with my husband, more time climbing rocks, more time sleeping, more time learning, more time playing on DU, more time travelling. Is it hive-mind, though? I mean, do I still control the collective thought? That might get confusing... :)

6. Yeah, they'd have to have automatic settings
or I'd get confused, too. But then I'd like to download the memories I like from each...hahaha

7. It would never work out for me...
Either they'd be super-industrious, zipping all over the place, fixing, repairing, and soaking up culture, and I'd have my hands full just trying to monitor the little buggers....

-OR-

(worse-case scenario) they'd all turn out just like me, blow the whole day watching Mythbusters, wouldn't get sh*t done around the house, eat all the donuts, and take up all the available couches.

9. But perhaps we could use this power only for good.
:hi:

I don't like vitriol. Even spewing it gives me indigestion.

17. "Kiln People" by David Brin
explores this very subject, with the idea of making copies of people using an advanced ceramic. The ceramic copies are color-coded according to skills-green have very few mental abilities, yellow have more, ebony even more, and platinum are intellectually identical to the people they copy. A whole society develops around the idea that people can make copies of themselves; for example, war becomes a sport because soldiers use copies and therefore aren't harmed.
Great book! Lots of fun.
