why does earthlink.net suck so bad???
our local ISP went out of service, and they delivered internet speeds of 45+ kbps most of the time. Now I have earthlink.net with its all foreign all the time help desk and hour long waits to talk to people in Pakistan.

we usually have access speeds of only 36 kbps.that really sucks. thats barely better than using a 28 K modem from 8 years ago. why is earthlink so crappy?

we are going to call their corporate HQ to try to find an american in the USA to talk to if there is one and tell them we want a 40% discount (36 of a 56 k modem).

anybody know a good ISP that has good access speeds?

1. I recently switched from AOhelL to Earthlink
so I don't have a lot of complaints. With AOL, not only are all the service people in Africa or India, but you have to spend 15 minutes speaking with a voice prompter before you're allowed to talk to a human being!

My suggestion; get Covad DSL and use Firefox as your browser.

5. The funny thing is that when you do get a "live" cust svc rep......
he/she will tell you their name is Steve or Bill or Susie but their accent is so strong you can barely understand them.

10. I've groomed my accent precisely for this purpose.

9. Why is live in quotes?
Are people working in call centers in India (or wherever) somehow not live?

3. That isn't actually the problem I've had with Earthlink
I've been with them for years and consistently get around 50K bps connections. The thing that annoys me more are fake connections, ie when the modem says I'm connected but I can't actually get email or any website. This hasn't been happening as often lately, though.

A buddy switched to Netzero and has been satisfied.

4. i don't have a problem with earthlink
i have spoken with american tech help, too, never indian. i can't say that for hewlett packard, though!

the only problem i have is the phone lines here. they are the first ever made! right now i am at 34k, but it's usually 48k. but that is because it has rained, so the lines are wet and service sucks. i'm about 1/4 mile too far out of range for dsl, too. oh well....

sorry you are having problems. i love earthlink.

6. My dial-up goes down the drain with the rain, too.
Called the phone company - WTF Over???

"Yeah - it'll do that, underground cables get wet too, electrons rubbing off, blah blah - sucks to be you"

So much for the 21st century.
