There is an excellent book on him by Colin Wilson called, "The Nature of the Beast."
I highly recommend it for anyone interested.

21. Thanks Pert
I've got a dictionary that's a foot thick and that word isn't in there. I thought it had something to do with women but I didn't know what.

10. I go with #'s 1, 2, 7, 8 and 10...
And would add that Crowley was, in a sense, the truest successor to Friedrich Nietzsche...most of Crowley's magickal techniques are tools for self-actualisation through application of focussed will...sort of a form of psychological self-control, I suppose.

11. You want to know what made me a Liberal?
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 07:51 PM by khephra
This is going to scare people...but here goes. It's all in public domain now.

LIBER OZ

There is no god but man.

1. Man has the right to live by his own law--

to live in the way that he wills to do:

to work as he will:

to play as he will:

to rest as he will:

to die when and how he will.

2. Man has the right to eat what he will:

to drink what he will:

to dwell where he will:

to move as he will on the face of the earth.

3. Man has the right to think what he will:

to speak what he will:

to write what he will:

to draw, paint, carve, etch, mould, build as he will:

to dress as he will.

4. Man has the right to love as he will:--
"take your fill and will of love as ye will,
when, where, and with whom ye will." --AL. I. 51

5. Man has the right to kill those who would thwart these rights.
"the slaves shall serve." --AL. II. 58
"Love is the law, love under will." --AL. I. 57

(I'm sure our Freeper viewers are now going, "SEE, I told you all they're Satanists!!! ;-) )

Liber OZ can lead to some people being RW pricks...but if you know the context...well, I guess I'm speaking to the choir.

GASP!

Even back then in Europe you had to believe in a Supreme God to be a Mason.

(Ooooopppppp....I better hide my apron again.)

24. Great song by Ozzy too!
Mr. Crowley
Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head
Mr. Crowley, did you talk with the dead
Your life style to me seemed so tragic
With the thrill of it all
You fooled all the people with magic
You waited on Satan's call
Mr. Charming, did you think you were pure
Mr. Alarming, in nocturnal rapport
Uncovering things that were sacred manifest on this Earth
Conceived in the eye of a secret
And they scattered the afterbirth

(solo)

Mr. Crowley, won't you ride my white horse
Mr. Crowley, it's symbolic of course
Approaching a time that is classic
I hear maidens call
Approaching a time that is drastic
Standing with their backs to the wall

Was it polemically sent
l wanna know what you meant
I wanna know
I wanna know what you meant

25. Uncle Al
Crowley, in my view, was a genius, a libertine, and a flawed human being. His exploration of magick and spirituality is worthy of consideration, but ultimately, his erratic nature and his own hubris made his life a ruin.

Also quite a bit misunderstood, a drug fiend, publicity hound, a teacher, a misogynist, and a lot of other things. Damn fine mountaineer (going by his accounts, anyway), and a most entertaining writer. As an obscure sidenote, it is a shame his friend Eckenstein never had a bio made to complement Crowley's, for it is often interesting to know of the inspirations for an extraordinary person as much as it is to know of that person themselves.
