Mariette Hartley just torched Tom Cruise on CNN.
They are talking about depression and she said about Cruises' statments about Brooke Shields "For someone of his stature to so publically be this unempathic,so unfeeling, is appaling." Dick Cavett pipes in "What a great guy."

2. Dick Cavett is still alive???
And Mariette Hartley??

How and why are they on CNN?? I realize that they are on the decline, but can't they just reach back to the 1990s -- as opposed to the 1970s?!?!?!

3. Was that on Larry King?
Just curious. I always catch it on the later feed, as my husband doesn't like it.

7. Unfortunately, Cavett reached his peak in Beetlejuice.
He's been trying to make a comeback ever since.

I just thought he was a color commentator or a guest they brought on to talk abot celebrity gossip

I think "Go fuck yourself" is a little extreme for a snarky comment made in jest, don't you?

5. what is the back story?
what did Tom Cruise say about Brooke Shields?

Why is Mariette Hartley being interviewed on CNN (or is she hosting or what?) and how did Cruise come up?

How does Dick Cavett fit in?

6. They are all clinically depressed.
I think they are heroic to so publicly talk about this. Suicidal thoughts, feelings of self-loathing and uselessness. Jane Pauley was great too.

10. Yes, I think it's great that they are speaking out and trying to help
others who may be depressed and suicidal but unable to understand what's going on with themselves.

Dick Cavett, Mariette Hartley, Jane Pauley--I caught a few minutes of the show.

show that recently aired where several celebrities - some might say "former - such as Mariette Hartley, Cavett, and others talk about their experiences with depression. Very good segment.

on edit: just when I get totally disgusted with the crap that L.K. has on his show, he goes ahead and puts on a piece like this.

21. Yeah, but Hubbard lived a glamorous life, right to the end (sarcasm)
By late 1985, Hubbard's directives to underlings had tapered off. At age 74, he no longer resembled the robust and natty man whose dated photographs fill Scientology's promotional literature. Living in isolation, separated from his devoted followers, he had let himself go.

His thin gray hair, with streaks of the old red, hung without sheen to his shoulders. He had grown a stringy, unkempt beard and mustache. His round face was now sunken and his ruddy complexion had turned pasty. He was an old man and he was nearing death.

On or about Jan. 17, 1986, Hubbard suffered a "cerebral vascular accident," commonly known as a stroke. Caring for him was Gene Denk, a Scientologist doctor and Hubbard's physician for eight years. There was little Denk could do for Hubbard in those final days -- the stroke was debilitating. He was bedridden and his speech was badly impaired. One week later, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, Hubbard died.

For more than 11 hours, Hubbard's body remained in the motor home where he died. Scientology attorney Earle Cooley had ordered that Hubbard not be touched until he arrived by car from Los Angeles with another Scientology lawyer.

14. the boy toy thought brooke
should have spent hundreds of thousands on getting e-metered instead of going to established therapies in treating mental illness.he opened his big fat mouth last week during his on air fuck fest of his new girlie friend who will promptly dump him when she finds out he is insane...funny how his belief in the cult of the dead l ron hubbard can`t keep him married or even dating some of the hottest woman in hollywood.. from being married to the hottest milf in hollywood mimi rogers, add nicole kidman , then penelope cruz you may deduce there`s something wrong with the boy...

16. Cruise just likes his cult's dogma more than he likes reality
According to Scienos, Psychiatry is evil, and treating psychological disorders with drugs is an abomination.

Granted, treatments for depression seem kind of primitive (I say this after seeing my wife try practically every antidepressant on the market) but it beats the hell out of holding onto electric soup cans and learning that your problems are the result of weird little soul things stuck to your body because Xenu blew up a volcano a billion years ago...

20. Dick Cavett had one of the most intelligent and creative talk shows ever
He was having interesting discussions with a quirky selection of guests when Bill Maher was still in grade school.

I never used to miss it.
